Overslept Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Review

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Review – "Looter Shooter? More Like Missed Opportunity Shooter" Rating: 6.5/10 There’s something inherently exciting about a game where you play as DC’s most infamous villains, tasked with saving the world by taking down corrupted superheroes. The concept practically writes itself: chaotic missions, dark humor, and plenty of character-driven drama. Unfortunately, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League feels more like a missed opportunity than a bold leap into the DC universe. Pros: "Task Force Win (Sometimes)" + Fun Cast of Characters: Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang are engaging, with solid voice acting that brings these iconic villains to life. Familiar voices are a welcome touch. + King Shark Steals the Show: He’s Drax-like in humor (yes, it’s a bit of a copy), but his levity fits well. Straightforward Story Premise: Amanda Waller assembling the squad and pitting them against a brainwashed Justice League? Simple, fun, and sets up some epic moments. + Justice League Battles Deliver: When you’re facing off against DC’s greatest heroes, the action ramps up to genuinely epic levels. + Addictive Gameplay: For all its faults, the gameplay loop can suck you in if you can look past the clunky design choices. + Graphics Shine: Even on mid-tier hardware, the game dazzles with detailed environments and impressive visuals. Cons: "Task Force Miss" - Clunky Controls: Each character’s mechanics feel unintuitive and inconsistent, making combat frustrating. - Gun-Centric Gameplay: Why does every character’s combat revolve around guns? These are DC supervillains with unique abilities that should take center stage. - Forced Traversal Mechanics: Giving Harley a grappling hook and Boomerang a Speed Force gauntlet feels like a desperate attempt to justify the open-world design rather than playing to their strengths. - Generic Missions: Most missions boil down to “hold this area and kill enemies before the timer runs out” or "escort this car for some reason," which feels uninspired for a team behind the Arkham series. - DLC Woes: The additional characters are uninspired—Joker feels overplayed, Mrs. Freeze is an odd choice, and Lawless is just a mess of a concept. Why not tap the rich roster of DC’s rogues? - Screen Clutter: Numbers, icons, and text overload the UI, resembling a free-to-play mobile game more than a premium title. - Microtransaction Bait: The live-service elements, from the reward systems to the grindy mechanics, feel like a distraction from the core game. - Cringe-Worthy Dialogue: The bad jokes outweigh the good ones, making some interactions more painful than entertaining. Neutral: "Boomerang Toss-Ups" +/- Resource Demands: The game is demanding on hardware, but once optimized, it runs smoothly and looks gorgeous. Finding that sweet spot takes patience, though. +/- Core Potential: Beneath all the missteps, there’s a foundation that could have worked with better execution. The concept is there, but it’s buried under frustrating decisions. Verdict: A Justice League-Sized Letdown Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League feels like a game built for a different IP that got slapped with DC branding at the last minute (think Sunset Overdrive but not in a good way). It doesn’t respect the deep lore or the unique qualities of its characters, opting instead for a cookie-cutter looter-shooter formula. For fans of DC and the Arkham series, this is a painful missed opportunity. It's sad since you can tell there was a lot of resources put into building this game but so many bad choices led it down a dark path. While the game can be a decent time-suck and boasts gorgeous visuals, it’s hard to recommend. If you’re a die-hard DC fan, approach with low expectations and the understanding that this is far from the Arkham magic we’ve come to expect.
