Pixel Crit Donkey Kong Bananza Review

I put quite a bit of time into Donkey Kong Bananza, which gave me hours of mindless fun. Towards the end though, I found myself waiting for the game to take the next step, which just never came. As a gameplay mechanic, the destruction you can cause in Bananza is great entertainment. Sadly, they don’t build it too well throughout the game. It would be a great compliment to a platforming game, but when it’s the focus, it harms other things the game is trying to do. Everything is about destruction, from combat to traversal. If they’d allowed the chaos to take a step back, giving platforming and combat a chance to breathe, the overall package would have been so much better. Yes, breaking stuff is fun in this game, Nintendo have nailed that. Everything else falls flat though, so by the end, Donkey Kong is just a ball of boring rage.
