PixeledPython77 Marathon Review
Apr 3, 2026
This game is a black hole of time. I have to restrain myself to stay away so I don't accidentally add another hundred hours to my playtime.
Never played an extraction shooter before but I fell in love with this game after just a few hours of play, I now have 108+ hours and counting on this game after just a couple weeks.
I was also hesitant to play this due to how much destiny has fallen off in more recent years, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that bungie still has that magic sauce after all this time.
One of the most unique aspects about Marathon is the Destiny raid-like mechanics you'll see in some maps but mainly in Cry Archive, which is basically the extraction shooter version of a Destiny raid.
The team over at Bungie have been great with communication, they've been nothing but responsive and transparent so far, its clear they've been listening to player feedback and have had this attitude of "Frick it, let's just put in the game, try it out, and get a feel for how it plays" which is something I personally like and feel is a breath of fresh air in an industry where it feels like AAA devs hate their players sometimes.
Overall, I've really enjoyed my time with Marathon; Even if you're on the fence about it and aren't sure whether the very intense PvPvE extraction style gameplay will click for you, I still recommend giving it a shot.
