Pongy Sea of Stars Review

Dec 9, 2024
A 30ish hour adventure that can seem retro at first, but don't let the pixel art fool you, this game shines in all its modern additions. The art is beautiful, animations are clean, the soundtrack is amazing, the maps to explore have great interaction with height and depth. The gameplay is simple but enjoyable : turn-based, each character has a few skills, combos and an ultimate. There are some side activities that encourage and reward the exploration (tavern mini game, loot, quest items, hidden caves...) which are fun the first time, but missing them and go back to every single place and fight again the same enemies becomes tedious in the end-game. The story is not the most memorable, but has one or two unexpected events.
