Not only did they nail it, but Revelations 2 became, to my great surprise, my favorite Resident and the third 10/10 I’ve given in the series. But how can it be better than the Remake 2 and on the same level as Remakes 3 and 4? Of course, I know it’s not as technically impressive as its bigger brothers, but other factors come into play. Let’s go. Those who read me (whooooo? who am I even writing for? existential crisis) already know I’m playing all the RE games in chronological story order. That means I sometimes end up playing less developed entries after the incredible remakes, for example. In that sense, the first thing that hooked me—and it’s not neutral at all—was the surprise: I had just finished Revelations 1, which was preeeeetty simple (since it was made for the Nintendo 3DS), and the awful RE5, which I almost hated. So Revelations 2 ended up being a wonderful slap in the face and a return to the essence and quality the series had gotten us used to. The second element was something I hadn’t felt in a Resident game for a long time: fear. Fear and discomfort. Anyone who knows me a bit knows I love horror games, but I used to be almost incapable of playing more than 5 minutes without freaking out. Don’t get me wrong, the entries before 5 were still horror. But they were manageable. Here, the tension and weirdness reach what I believe is my limit. And that kind of nightmare… is good. The third element was an innovation that worked really well: controlling two characters alternately, and two teams at different moments, whose actions can affect each other. In my opinion, it was executed very effectively. But I won’t go deeper to avoid spoilers. As for the rest, everything that was already good in the series is still here: the dark story, great characters, unlockables, upgrades, etc. Of course, not everything is perfect, especially compared to the Remakes: some mechanics feel a bit stiff, there are few puzzles, and a few small things could have been improved. But for me, this is the best Resident Evil so far. So yes, I highly recommend it! Just be careful: the game is split into four episodes, which can be bought separately or as a bundle. This is clearly poorly done, and many people end up buying only the first part by mistake. But the full price without a sale is around 80 reais, and it’s totally worth it. And there are almost always sales!!! Well… now I’m going to play 6… and I’ve already been told it’s like 5, but worse. I don’t have much hope that won’t be true… See you soon to find out how it goes.
