I came into the game without any prior knowledge regarding the franchise. I've also never played Gears of Wars, which I've heard this game being compared to. Even without any background on the franchise I had a great time! The story was relatively quick (71/2 hours for me), but filled with challenging enemies and a BEAUTIFUL world. The world that WHSM2 was able to create is really where this game shines. Fully immersed in not only the conflicts, but with the UltraMarines and especially our small group. I played alone, and didn't feel solo at all, the AI companions are adept at fighting, and their commentary had some real life to it. As Titus and his brothers evolve throughout the story, their friendship and brotherhood grows with them. I haven't continued the story outside of the main campaign, and it looks like there is still a wealth of content left to quench the desire for battle. Overall, I give the game a 9/10 and would highly recommend you try it out (brother!).
