Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – The Ultimate Medieval Experience
After 160 hours with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, I can confidently say this is the best gaming experience I've had since Mass Effect. This isn't just a game—it's like stepping into a living history book, where every choice shapes your adventure and personal growth.
The world feels as immersive as Red Dead Redemption 2, while its vast, enchanting landscapes rival Skyrim. But what sets KCD2 apart is its unparalleled authenticity—there’s no magic here, yet the experience feels magical.
A Living, Breathing World:
As someone born in Czechia (formerly Bohemia), I’ve never seen Bohemia brought to life so vividly. I’ve walked through the cobblestone streets of Kuttenberg, both in the game and in reality, feeling the pulse of medieval life around me. Each village, forest, and castle has its own character, secrets, and stories. The way KCD2 captures the essence of the era—from the rhythmic hammering of a blacksmith to the small talk of townsfolk or the gentle patter of rain on leaves—is nothing short of magical, even in a world without magic.
The Heart of Gameplay:
Combat in KCD2 isn't just about swinging swords; it's about learning, adapting, and growing with Henry. Each fight, each duel, taught me something new, making me feel more connected to my character. The skill system lets you tailor Henry to be whoever you want him to be - I've spent hours deciding my path, whether it was mastering the art of persuasion or becoming a stealthy rogue. The satisfaction of brewing a perfect potion or picking a lock after many attempts is unparalleled.
A Story That Tugs at Your Heart:
The narrative in KCD2 pulled me in like a good friend sharing tales by the fire. Henry's journey isn't just about revenge or glory; it's about identity, friendship, and the harsh realities of war. I've laughed with Hans Capon, grieved with Henry over losses, fallen for local women, and felt the weight of every decision. The characters aren't just NPCs; they're people with lives, dreams, and conflicts that resonate with you.
Living, Breathing World:
The game's immersion comes from how it involves you in its world.
The NPCs have their own lives, they go to work, visit pubs, or engage in other activities, which can influence quest outcomes or player interactions. The environment reacts to the player's actions. Crimes can lead to guards being called, and NPCs might remember and react to past interactions with the player, affecting their behavior and the player's reputation. This dynamic world makes every return to the game feel like coming back to a living place, not just a static map.
Graphically, KCD2 is breathtaking:
I played on Experimental settings for future HW, I'm super grateful for the ability to push my hardware to the max, and the game delivered remarkable stability with minimal technical issues. The detailed environments, lifelike character models, and stellar sound design create an unmatched level of immersion.
Conclusion:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a masterpiece—an RPG that sets a new standard for historical authenticity, storytelling, and gameplay depth. It doesn’t just invite you into its world; it makes you a part of its history.
This is an unapologetically raw medieval experience, free from modern embellishments. Romance is handled naturally by players choice, nothing is forced or unskippable, of course your character is as straight as you want him to be and characters like Musa aren’t forced diversity checkboxes—they are thoughtfully crafted and add to the richness of the world.
Final Score: 10/10
An impeccable journey through medieval Bohemia, free of major technical issues and brimming with historical depth. A must-play for RPG fans and history lovers alike.
