Serpentaurus Visions of Mana Review
Dec 16, 2024
Highly recommended to fans of Mana games and JRPGs. It is a flawed masterpiece in the action JRPG genre with some of the most beautiful art, new great characters, an engrossing fast paced battle system, and a charming light hearted narrative full of dark twists and life lessons. It is a slow burn at first with some pacing issues here and there but the flaws don’t take away from the memorable experience through another incredible Mana world. The semi open areas almost feel open world from how big they are and there is always something to find on the big varied maps, with lots of interaction through the elemental systems. The boss battles are fun and the hard mode is very challenging sometimes without being overly punishing.
For fans of the mana games, it created more lore and also is heavily tied both to Legend of Mana with references to all the Mana games all through the game.
The Steam Deck version runs mostly great with 2 small combat areas on the game that tank the performance, but overall a great experience. Played on hard mode, Steam Deck, and took 58 hours for completion.
