shl0opy River City Girls Review

Nov 6, 2025
I played River City Girls both alone and with someone, and honestly, for me, it’s two completely different games. With a friend, it’s fun and chaotic. We laughed, spammed buttons, and for a while it was exactly what I needed. But when I played alone, it quickly became exhausting. The bosses are too hard (or maybe I'm just bad), the fights dragged on, and I gave up more times than I can count. The art though — wow. It’s beautiful. The colors, the animation, the style, everything is loud and sharp and alive. It reminded me of that Scott Pilgrim aesthetic, which I love. The story could’ve been charming, but it isn’t. The characters are cliché, noisy, and kind of unbearable after a while. I get that it’s supposed to be over the top, but it just didn’t click for me. I didn’t connect to anyone, and the humor got old fast. Combat feels repetitive, but it’s satisfying when you finally beat a boss that made you want to throw the controller. Still, it’s more frustration than fun when you’re on your own. maybe I just needed a friend. The soundtrack, though, is absolutely amazing! easily my favorite part of the game. River City Girls is a game I admire, but don’t love. It looks incredible, sounds even better, but underneath all that there isn’t much to hold on to.
