Sholva Resident Evil Requiem Review

Mar 9, 2026
Requiem is a celebration of the whole series, and it’s fantastic. This year, 2026, marks the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise and what a way to celebrate it all, with this phenomenal game. Before getting into more details, this is a PC version review so, first and foremost, some PC Performance data, from having played the whole game on my Ryzen 7 5700X and RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, with 32 GB DDR4 3600 MTs RAM. This game is an actual visual showcase, it is the best looking RE Engine game, to date, and that is even with the regular Ray Tracing it includes, optionally, but then, with the also optional Path Tracing mode, it looks absolutely incredible. Path Tracing does a lot of work for this game’s visuals, improving how light reflects not just on surfaces but also on characters skin, faces and, especially, that beautiful Strand Hair technology we’ve had since RE 4 Remake, now looking even better. A good example of this is switching Grace’s view to third person and walking along the street in the intro, with all those neons and lights from the different shops on the side, and watching how her hair catches on the various lights, simple astonishing. Performance wise, on my system, I can run the game at 1440p Output, with Performance DLSS, Path Tracing enabled, and Multi Frame Generation set to 3x, while the PC Latency remains at very solid levels with no noticeable input lag at all, getting above 110-120 FPS in the most demanding areas, and 140-160 FPS indoors, which is simply fantastic. Moving on, this game is an absolute treat full with good and clever fan service, the one that’s not that much in your face every minute but, when you get it, you have to stop what you’re doing, sit there a few seconds, reminiscing about past games, and the whole series in general, and how we got here, such a good feeling, and very well done, good job Capcom. Now, Gameplay is one of the main highlights of this game, mixing the best elements of games like RE VII, Village and the original ones, with also the best parts of the more action oriented games such as RE 4, 5 and 6, in a good way, and even stuff with some of the CG movies, and so much more. Everything blends together so well: the Grace segments are so good, classic RE gameplay, while the Leon sections are so intense and action packed, with great finishing moves and his usual one-liners. Big part of how great the gameplay is, are the Locations we get to visit, they’re incredibly detailed, with lots of places to explore and stuff to interact with, and simply another way to showcase how much the RE Engine has been improved for this title, it’s insane. And another component that games Gameplay so fantastic in this game, is the zombies: they're some of the most unique types we've ever encountered in the franchise, because of their unique behaviours and quirks, especially in the Grace sections of the game, some of these zombies are amazingly designed, incredible job there. With a Soundtrack to match every moment in the game, be it the tension of walking through a very dark corridor with just a lighter or a flashlight, to having to fight some of the most crazy enemies with Leon, in even crazier situations, the music always feels part of the gameplay, at every single moment. Sound Design is also incredible, especially with Surround Sound (I used Atmos for Headphones) so, if you’re able to use any type of surround, I highly recommend it. Characters are another big high point, with incredible performances from the English voice cast for Leon and Grace, especially the latter, big surprise, how incredibly good she is at portraying her character, her personality and quirks, greatly enhanced by RE Engine’s absolutely marvelous animations, both in regular gameplay and cutscenes…seriously, this is the RE Engine game with the most detailed character’s to date, and really one of the best out there in general, it’s absolutely incredible how much detail they have. All in all, I’d have to get into spoilers here, to keep talking about why this game is so amazing, maybe I should but, nah, I think that, as a fan of the whole franchise, this game felt like one of the best, especially because it’s a new mainline title, and that reaffirms Capcom’s commitment to the series. I’m looking forward to any DLC they cook for this one, should be interesting, and I can think of various possible ways they could add content, like they usually do. Fantastic game, really, what a strong early 2026 game for Capcom, for sure.
