With 007 First Light, the developers at IO Interactive impressively demonstrate that the James Bond franchise can reach peak form beyond the silver screen. This captivating and superbly acted origin story fills an intriguing gap in the secret agent's life, while the accomplished level design—in the best possible way—recalls the gameplay freedom of the Hitman series. Only the occasionally very long, action-heavy "John Wick"-style shootouts slightly detract from the elegant espionage atmosphere from time to time. However, anyone looking for a gripping, beautifully staged, and gameplay-diverse spy thriller will be masterfully served by this adventure.
