SkillPoint Gears of War: E-Day Review

Oct 23, 2026
Gears of War: E-Day is a strong prequel from The Coalition, bringing the early days of the Locust invasion vividly to life and giving greater weight to the friendship between Marcus and Dom. The opening acts impress with their suspense, atmosphere, and well-judged blend of familiar and new characters. Weapon mods and tactical tools also add depth to the familiar combat system, while the multiplayer offering goes big with Versus and a significantly expanded Horde mode. The campaign, however, loses momentum as it goes on: the enemy hordes become exhausting, the friendly AI disappoints, and the recurring mini open-world sections begin to wear thin. Playing with a group of friends is still a blast, but solo players will have to put up with a few shortcomings. E-Day comes tantalizingly close to the 90% mark—and still proves that the series is far from out of the fight.
