solar311 Inscryption Review
May 22, 2026
Rouge deck-building meets escape room, blended with hints of psychological horror. Available across many gaming platforms, such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo, Inscryption is a game that is impossible to put down.
With 3D animations throughout the entire game, it is difficult not to feel fully immersed in your play. I particularly enjoyed the visuals that fit each boss in their respective sections. For Leshy in Act I, you have a rundown cabin and descriptions of the wilderness in which your battles take place. In Act II, you have a cavernous tomb when battling Grimora and a magical wizard's tower to face Magnificus. When you reach Act III, you are met with a technological factory setting for beating the robot boss, PO3. Each animation and illustration beautifully blends with the respective boss you are battling.
The soundtrack for Inscryption is easy to overlook, but when you give your time to pay attention to the music, you will find that each song is carefully crafted to match the boss you will be facing. Audio is very important for me, as I am able to focus better when I have music going. In other games, I typically find myself needing background music, but with Incryption, I can happily settle for the in-game audio.
Storytelling and world-building are extremely important within Inscryption. Every boss is connected, and every move you make has a purpose that is tied to a later event. I particularly enjoyed Leshy, or Act I (and Kaycee's Mod), the most. Leshy was big on character building and having every decision throughout his map have an impact on your future gameplay.
The game is all about deck-building, card battles, and escape-room-esque puzzles. Your ultimate goal is to best the boss at hand by creating a powerful deck to move through each act. My favorite piece of the game would be the Ouroboros, which can be quite overpowered (if you mess around and find out!)
Overall, I love Inscryption more than any game I have ever played. This was the first game that could hold my interest long enough for me to play it to completion. The visuals and audio were captivating enough on their own, but adding in the gameplay and the character building made everything perfect. I would always recommend Inscryption to those looking for a game that will keep them busy for at least 15-20 hours of their life. I am very excited to play again and learn any hidden features!
