Splodey Boi Ninja Gaiden 4 Review

I don't really understand all the hype. This game is a 6/10 at best. While the depth of combat is fantastic, it is let down by extremely repetitive enemy encounters and bland, archaic level design. So much so that it does a disservice to the combat itself, especially during encounters with hordes of low-level, spongey enemies that you just button-mash your way through. Most boss fights were easy and trivial. The characters were also nothing special and the story didn't hook me. I know people are saying they don't play NG for the story or level design, but let's be real people - all of those aspects needed to be great for the 4th installment! We live in 2025 and the expectations are just higher for action games. Visually it also looks like a remastered PS3 game. I enjoyed Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and the majority of Platinum Games' other titles way more than this.
