Sublustr The Callisto Protocol Review
Sep 9, 2025
A very short, but juicy game - if you can get past the overdrawn prologue, that is! The Callisto Protocol plays like a copy of Dead Space on a budget at first (they are from the same studio, after all), but after a couple of hours the game quickly picks up and forges a different path for itself: a more cinematic and action-oriented horror with survival elements. Something in between the RE4 remake and Last of Us 1, but in space and with corridors, LOTS of corridors. It's not new, but it works just fine.
The graphics are absolutely stunning, the harrowing atmosphere of a ravaged, infected space prison colony sends shivers down your spine; the plot and the characters are frankly average, but they are well executed. The enemy design and encounters aren't exactly inventive or creative, but they work well for a game of this length, although at times they leave you wanting more.
Overall, it's a nice, neat little horror piece. Even though it's entirely unoriginal, it's still breathtakingly beautiful and engaging, and it plays well (as of sep 2025) - zero performance issues on PS5 in quality mode.
7.5/10, go grab it on sale and enjoy the atmosphere and the graphics!
