Sublustr GreedFall Review

A painfully average game that starts out as something more, but doesn't deliver on its promises. You play as De Sardet, a Legate of the Merchant Congregation that has come to the island of Teer Fradee in search of the cure for the plague - Malichor. While pursuing this quest, you need to navigate the complex relationship between the island's other colonisers, religious Theleme and science-oriented, but ruthless Alliance Bridge, as well as the Natives and two other factions - the Coin Guard (militia) and the Nauts (ship navigators). It sounds promising and gripping, the world of fictional 17th century realpolitik mixed with magic, swords and beasts, but alas! Most of the time you will spend running around the island (literally) doing stupid fetch-quests for the factions that treat you like a mere errand boy. Running around the island takes about 80% of the gameplay time, seeing as the world is vast but pointless, with teleportation camps far in between. The reputation system is very simple: you either do ALL the stupid fetch-quests for this and that faction, or they're not friends with you. And no matter what you do, you can't change that later on. The moral choices largely consist of being goody two shoes all around, or just acting neutral. Renegade playthrough is virtually impossible, and what started out as an attempt to create a complex and nuanced system of political divisions and moral choices ended up being yet another insipid Mary Sue adventure soap opera. Can't recommend, it gets truly insufferable towards the end.
