Sunrise Parabellum Slots & Daggers Review

Dec 28, 2025
I played Slots & Dagger for about five hours (with the last level beaten at 4h41). I didn't unlock everything but I still felt like I saw what the game wanted to show. At its core, it's a roguelite but instead of choosing actions directly, you spin slots to attack/defend/make money. It sounds chaotic but it works, and the mechanics stay clear throughout the run. It is fast paced and very addictive to the point I didn't even notice the time until I beat the last boss. What I liked the most is the vibe and the general presentation, and to be honest it was the first thing that caught my attention. The pixel art and color palette are pleasing without trying too hard. Light is used well. It was very satisfying how everything was animated and reacts: coins slide and bounce, liquids wobble, dice shake with impact.. every action has clear visual and audio feedback. The camera too has a soft shake that feels cozy and very relaxing. The soundtrack fits the game well and supports the overall experience without being distracting. The gameplay itself feels smooth and polished and I didn't run into any bugs, which is always appreciated. The upgrades and metaprogression are interesting and actually help across runs, and the weapon unlocks add real variety. It might not have the same depth as other games but that doesn''t take away from how fun it is. I also want to point out that I liked that I could leave the game anytime and come back exactly where I stopped. Finally, arcade mode adds replay value once the main run is done. In a nutshell, it's short + cheap (worth every buck). After finishing, I checked out Friedemann's other games and I'm looking forward to playing more of his previous and upcoming work ^^
