Tahseen The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition Review
May 24, 2026
I enjoyed my time with The Outer Worlds and had a blast travelling though this space faring adventure RPG. Not because the writing was superb or because the gameplay was amazing, but because its a well-placed decently written enjoyable RPG. It takes after the likes of Fallout and a bit of mass affect, and make a name for itself. It’s not perfect, but I feel that The Outer Worlds is a great first step, and a brilliant foundation for obsidian to work on.
I loved the player choice and freedom this game offers, from creating a character that best suits your play style and then allowing the player to play through the game any which way. Whether that's guns blazing, being diplomatic or just sneaking past the issue, the amount of player expression in this game is astonishing. I adored finding a myriad of ways to complete quest and resolve story lines, and at no point did I feel like the game was pigeon holing me into doing something a certain way. On top of that, the choices you get are almost never that clear cut, always morally grey. There's almost no good guy vs bad guy options and I love that. Sure there's a big bad, but during the quests you're deciding on the lesser evil more often than not, and that really got me immersed into the world and had me doing all the work to try and make the right choice.
I had fun playing the outer worlds but there were a few issues. Main one is that I really didn’t care for the companions (expect for one, shout out Parvati). They were just not that interesting and I didn't care for most of them. Even the companion quests seemed meh. I really don’t care for having romanceable companions, but I do want companions that are well written with some decent back stories. I felt these companions were just lacking. I also wasn't a fan of the perks, really nothing exciting or fun in my opinion. The flaw system was brilliant, but I found that non of the perks were even worth picking up flaws. Other than that, I had a great time playing this game and would recommend it.
Gotta work, to earn the right to work, to be able to afford to rent my grave! 7/10
