Tahseen Doom: The Dark Ages Review

Apr 11, 2026
Doom the dark ages is just that divisive 3rd game in the franchise, and to put it bluntly, its my 3rd favourite of the modern doom series. Don’t get me wrong, Its still a fun game, just no where near as fun as Eternal or 2016. From the combat, story, lore and MUSIC, it holds its own but lacks in comparison to the older titles in my opinion. Doom TDA’s combat is fun, but its missing something. Like with the guns, I have no real incentive to switch weapons, so I rarely switch off the one I’m the most comfortable with. I’m standing still parrying and moving around slowly most of the time. That makes the gun play just feels... slow? The shield is a fun addition for sure but the trade off of more fast and fluid moment wasn’t worth it. The story is okay. Hard for me to care when the doom guy couldn’t give a f. It was the same in the last two games, but those games never really focuses as hard on the narrative as TDA. It really tries to make you care for the character and lore, but if I hadn't the prior knowledge of the last few games I would've been lost. Even towards the end, you get a “moment” with a certain character who I felt nothing for. The codex spoke of the doom guys deep connection sure, but I never saw it in any cutscene or gameplay so as a player I never made any connection. It’s a doom game yea, narrative is whatever, but if you're gonna put this much effort, I would've expected a something of substance. The music is the weakest part. Passable, but not a single track that I can recall. People would buy a soundtrack and be given a doom game with it. Now its just some background music that does nothing. Felt so empty that I went back and put on 2016s soundtrack on loop just to reminisce. As a game, its fine. As a modern Doom game, not for me. “Your complaining will be eternal” 5/10
