Tahseen Outer Wilds Review
Jul 12, 2025
Outer Wilds is an amazing sci -fi adventure game. You play as an alien who is trying to uncover a long lost civilisation but gets caught in a timeloop that ends with your sun going supernova and wiping out the galaxy (or if you die before that.) Outer wilds narrative is truly a one of a kind and its premise and game play is a breath of fresh air. To be honest, I am not on board with all of the ideas at play here, but I am quite happy that the developers were willing to go out of their way to try something new.
The main draw of this game has to be it's narrative. The whole mystery around this long dead race, who they are, what they were doing and how it intertwines itself with your story. The narrative works great along with the simulated planets that you explore, their orbits and unique atmospheres. In all honesty I feel like the planets themselves were the main cast of characters in this game , while the actual npcs you meet were bland and boring. The npcs do not react to most of the changes that happen when out in the world and are not that memorable. I really wanted more from them so that the ending of the game felt more impactful.
Another thing I have an issue with is the timeloop and the mystery solving. I dislike being rushed while investigating clues or going over details. The loop makes it so that you are rushing through things just to make sure you got it all before the loop resets. Not to mention that some parts of the game are time gated, so you have to wait before you can progress, killing more time and giving you even less time to put together what's going on. By the end of it I was well and truly tired of launching off the home planet to get to my destination to start an investigation.
It took me 64 loops, 2 actual deaths and having to restart, and a whole load of patience to complete the game, but I am glad that I did, and recommend this game to all those who want to experience a different way of storytelling.
7/10 would live to see the heat death of the universe again
