Tanebi Blue Prince Review

Jun 2, 2025
This might be my highest rating for a game I wouldn't recommend to people. Overall, Blue Prince is a brilliant idea with a lot of polish but ultimately one that fails to stick the landing because it's missing what I believe is essential to the mystery genre: Satisfaction. The game never quite gives you the feeling of accomplishment, because behind every solution is yet another problem or 3. Finally figured out this clue after spending hours agnonizing? Great, that lead you to... yet another clue. It's unrelenting, and at no point does the game ever really give you a good place to put it down and go: "I'm happy with what I did". Blue Prince seems to present itself in an almost mocking way, as it implies that the real pleasure of a puzzle comes not from what you gain from it but from the sheer pride and satisfaction of solving the puzzle itself. And while that might be true in some cases, or to some people, ultimately it just becomes tiring.
