Control stands out with its surreal mix of sci-fi, horror, and New Weird influences. Set within the shifting brutalist architecture of the FBC headquarters, the game immerses players in a paranormal narrative inspired by SCP lore and X-Files-like mystery. You play as Jesse Faden, who unexpectedly becomes the Bureau’s new Director, unlocking telekinetic powers to fight the mysterious Hiss. The gameplay blends third-person shooter mechanics with metroidvania exploration, offering a layered, atmospheric experience. Remedy’s storytelling shines through environmental storytelling, documents, and meta-references to past titles. Visually stunning and conceptually bold, Control is both a strategic action game and a dense narrative puzzle. The Ultimate Edition, with DLCs, deepens the experience further. Fans of Annihilation, Twin Peaks, or Stalker will feel right at home in this stylishly haunted universe. Despite minor technical flaws, Control remains one of the most original games of its generation.
