Playing the vanilla version is certainly a good thing, and has its advantages. But when a player downloads a few hundred mods and starts literally living in a game that is being modernized to this day, that's impressive. People live in this game. Skyrim didn't create a new standard for RPG games, but it had a significant impact on them. Skyrim created a new standard for open world in games. It's a game you want to come back to. And everyone's reason for returning is different.
