thunderball Resident Evil Requiem Review

Apr 3, 2026
So far, I played Resident Evil 1-8 (1-4 I played the remakes, but also RE4 original on the GameCube) with the exception of not finishing RE7 until after this game. Resident Evil: Requiem is absolutely my favorite of the series now. The split protagonists — Grace and Leon — allow for a unique set-up where you can get the best of both worlds that RE has developed throughout its history. The first set of the games was more survival horror, and shifted to a more action-focused gameplay with the release of the first RE4. Capcom eventually went back to survival horror roots with RE7, and to me RE8 felt like a good mix of the two. RE: R extends this by having a different protagonist for each gameplay. Grace is a new FBI agent who is typically disempowered throughout most of the game, and then Leon kicks the action into overdrive with his high-octane gameplay. Because these two are separate, you never have the issue of becoming too overpowered, but also get the break to let loose and have that empowering feeling. Throughout the game, you will go back and forth between them, giving you a consistent amount of both without having to completely sacrifice the other. This game also has perhaps one of my favorite boss encounters in the series, lore wise. The voice acting is some of the best out there. Angela Sant'Albano absolutely nails the mood whenever Grace is on the screen, and the writing for her has to make her my favorite female protagonist in the series. Her character journey is so real and you experience every bit of her fears and failures and feel such an accomplishment when you conquer a major source of that anxiety. RE: R is on my short list of favorite games of all time currently.
