thunderball Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Review

Apr 3, 2026
Full preface, I am not good at survival horror games. I planned to play this game when I was doing a marathon of Resident Evil in October. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to finish them all in that month. Eventually it fell on my Next to Play list on Steam. The atmosphere of this game is amazing. The Baker house in the back of the bayou brings me back to how I felt watching the Skeleton Key. Ethan is a relatively flat character, but everyone else excels in their roles (they fix him in RE8 in my opinion). I don’t even think I wanted to kill Excella Gionne more than I wanted to kill Lucas. The mechanics are smooth and work perfectly to theme of the game. Whenever I play games, and especially in RE games I look for the moment when the game flips. When it goes from Leon skulking around, avoiding Mr. X, to when he’s just mowing through enemies after the sewer level. RE7 does not disappoint. Around the halfway point, Ethan’s arsenal builds up enough to where you stop surviving mostly, and you become the hunter. This is paired with good pacing, phenomenal DLCs, and an excellent set-up to RE8, which remains my 3rd favorite in the series (behind RE4, and RE: R). If you can get it on a sale (which these games tend to be on after a year) pick it up and give it a try. Shout-out to Joe Baker, the third toughest guy in the RE series.
