TommyD100 Far Cry 3 Classic Edition Review

I didn't play the original, but this plays extremely well in 2026. Such a great open world first person shooter that offers so many nuggets of addictive gameplay. Collecting loot, clearing outposts, upgrading weapons and materials, and most importantly, a story that hooks and captivates you in the opening minutes. The game's pacific island setting is so nice and pleasing to explore, which makes all that collecting and combat something I am happy to take my time doing while living in this space, and you can easily lose track of time doing it all. I don't realize how much the setting can make all the difference on enjoying gameplay that can be repetitive, but it doesn't matter when you are doing it here. The main cutscenes are performed so well, the actors, especially the main villains, were so good. Yes, the game is a very polished and upscaled game that was released on a different generation of consoles, so you can tell some animations and models might feel a little dated and stiff. No matter, the game's smooth framerate and saturated brilliant colors make up for any visual reminders that this is an upgraded re-release. Like I mentioned, the gameplay outside of main missions can be repetitive, but you don't start to feel it until very late into the game. It's a well written and tight story that doesn't drag; it doesn't overstay its welcome. The only reason why it would feel long is because you're just so satisfied taking the time to do all the side missions and extending the time here on the island.
