WightnNerdy The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Review
Oct 21, 2024
Nintendo has, unsurprisingly, crafted yet another solidly-made and entertaining Legend of Zelda adventure. I’d say it’s somewhere in the B-tier range with games like The Minish Cap, but having Zelda herself star as the main heroine is very welcome, and the new echo mechanics — where you can summon various items and/or enemies at will — are cleverly implemented.
It ends up feeling unlike a typical Zelda game which I’m sure will turn some people off. I had a great time experimenting with various echoes to try and overcome obstacles though, whether it’s a combat challenge or puzzle. I also love how you’re encouraged to try and exploit it, like reaching distant pieces of the map.
My biggest gripe, like the Link’s Awakening remake, is the jarring and inconsistent frame rate. I also found the liberal use of side scrolling sections to be overdone at times. I’m just really glad we finally got a main series game starring Zelda — it was clearly time.
Pros
Finally a main series Zelda game where you play as Zelda herself
Experimenting with various echoes to solve puzzles and combat challenges is very fun
Love how the map is designed in a way to exploit it using echoes
Dungeons are well designed, including boss fights
