WightnNerdy The Plucky Squire Review
Oct 21, 2024
It’s not the most exciting gameplay experience in the world but the story book aesthetic and genre-swapping mechanics work well together. One moment you’ll be slashing your way through baddies and solving word-based puzzles and then you’ll be thrown into a boxing match with a giant honey badger, Punch-Out!!-style.
My favourite aspect of the game is its hand-drawn aesthetic — it's so sharp and colourful and the animations look really slick in motion. It's a very nice looking game, especially when the game suddenly changes from one art style to the next.
I do wish the game was a little more engaging overall. The puzzles and combat scenarios are fine but the game definitely leans more towards the boring side. Its most egregious misstep is how it constantly takes control away from you for exposition. I wouldn’t mind if this was solely for the lower difficulty setting but I didn't need it to explain puzzle mechanics I had already ascertained.

Cons
