Because if you're open to it and enjoy carving out your own paths, you owe it to yourself to give this game a chance. It gives back so much — and it's so much more than just walking.

No Recommendation / Blank - Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
Dec 15, 2021

I haven't had so little fun with a game in a long time as with Guerilla Games' Horizon: Zero Dawn – Complete Edition. Actually, the story is perfect for me. The young woman in a future America whose views don't align with her surroundings. Who primarily fights alone, as if she absolutely has to be strong and independent. Who isn't truly part of a community. Who carries the heavy fate of having to save her world. That's exactly my book niche where I get briefly annoyed again and again, but then still have fun. Maybe it's the feeling that everything is meaningless, that it's pointless to support those in need. That hopes are often in vain. It doesn't even feel desirable to save this world. But despite everything, Aloy and I naturally couldn't abandon the world. Not because the world was worth it—that was simply our task. The oversized, empty world also offers too little. Instead, walls are primarily obstacles that lead to even more running paths, although the flat areas already take up too much space. Moreover, exploration is only worthwhile for a look at the map with a marked icon found on it. But above all, Aloy can hardly interact with her environment. She feels like a foreign body not just in the story, but in the world itself, not properly integrated. She can only pick up materials and climb at specific spots. She can't even open doors. However pretty the world and lighting effects are, when trees or snow aren't occupying the screen, being able to merely look at a world massively reduces my enjoyment. However, individual side quests are small highlights in the game. Additionally, there are machine creatures despite everything. They're still somehow cool.

No Recommendation / Blank - Insurgency: Sandstorm
Oct 21, 2021

Overall, my experience with Insurgency: Sandstorm is a mixture of what felt like solo gameplay and individual, surprising moments. Communication and coordination within the team are not as decisive as they ought to be. Additionally, the co-op mode prepares players poorly for the PvP mode, which makes the game less beginner-friendly. The atmosphere that Insurgency: Sandstorm creates—with its winding cities and moments of firefights followed by silence—is very impressive. Relaxing is not the word for this game; instead, I was often on edge.

No Recommendation / Blank - Daemon X Machina
Sep 22, 2021

Daemon X Machina stands out thanks to its metal soundtrack and full English voice acting. The world-building is interesting, but often consists of little more than hints. With its characters and numerous factions, there is a great deal of untapped potential to develop the story further.

Recommended - art of rally
Aug 25, 2021

Overall, art of rally offers a wide variety of tracks and cars that become faster with each group. The game is well suited for beginners but also provides sufficient opportunities to improve oneself.

Recommended - Cozy Grove
Apr 21, 2021

With its life simulation game *Cozy Grove*, developer Spry Fox has created a little oasis of relaxation, designed to let players explore the stories of ghost bears over a period of several months, investing just half an hour a day.

Until then, however, racing through the various areas and stumbling upon snippets of lore is usually great fun. What’s more, the many different animations and brief comments on the lore you find really bring the player character to life.

For fans of Crypt of the Necrodancer, I can highly recommend Cadence of Hyrule. It might be a bit easier, but the music and rhythm-based combat are as good as ever. If you’re a fan of 2D Zelda and are open to giving it a go, feel free to pick it up or try the demo first. However, you shouldn’t expect a classic Zelda experience, even if the overworld map feels a bit like one. The dungeons in particular – with the exception of the IQ Temple – differ quite significantly from the norm.

No Recommendation / Blank - Flashback
Jan 14, 2021

Those who remember Flashback from years ago might consider picking it up during a sale. Apart from the very convenient rewind function, the game remains faithful to the original. The controls were likely not particularly good even back then.

I doubt I’d enjoy Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled any more if I knew the characters better.

Drawn to Life: Two Realms may not be the hoped-for sequel. I didn't expect one at all and was surprised by the shifted focus toward a strong puzzle-oriented design

Nov 27, 2020

Most of the time, I simply take joy in playing. In the glowing colours, in the constant praise — even when it sometimes feels undeserved. In the energetic synthwave soundtrack. In the risky grabbing of jewels and daring dodge manoeuvres. And, last but not least, in mowing down enemies.

Recommended - Breakpoint
Sep 24, 2020

Breakpoint focuses entirely on a compact game mode, which also works very well except for individual details. Sometimes it takes a bit too long until the first point multipliers or other weapons appear. Apart from the throws, close combat is pursued completely, and since these cannot be used completely freely, they do not torpedo the game principle. For high score hunters, the game offers a lot of fun, even though the top spots are already very difficult to reach.

No Recommendation / Blank - Commander Keen in Keen Dreams
Aug 27, 2020

It’s hard to recommend this game even to Commander Keen fans, as Keen Dreams is quite different from other Keen games anyway and is relatively unknown. Perhaps it’s worth a go for those who really miss the series and have too much money to spare, as you don’t get much in the way of gaming fun for the price. But what about those who’ve never had any experience with Commander Keen? You won’t be missing out on all that much if you give this game a miss, though at least the Definitive Edition offers some advantages over the standard version.
