8.7 / 10.0 - Deathloop
Sep 13, 2021

Deathloop is the newest hit from Arkane Studios and even if it feels very familiar to Dishonored at the beginning, the gameplay loop changes everything. The studio captivates players again with a strong level design and the day and night cycle gets even more out of the different environments. In short, with Deathloop in your hands you'll experience the best the studio has delivered so far and leaves little to be desired.

WarioWare: Get It Together! lives from its weird and often amusing micro games. So for a short amount of time the game feels like a collection of amazing ideas with new surprises every time around the corner but the effect wears off after the second and third time playing the same game. The different playable characters offer some fresh takes on some gameplay elements but there could have been a lot more new features after 18 years of waiting.

8.9 / 10.0 - Psychonauts 2
Aug 23, 2021

By expanding on the strong parts of its predecessor - like the imaginative worlds and the bonkers humor -, and reworking the fighting system from the ground up, Psychonauts 2 shows everybody how a succesful sequel should be made. This might be the definite Psychonauts experience as well as the 3D platformer of the year.

8.8 / 10.0 - Cris Tales
Jul 20, 2021

The graphics are colorful and beautiful, the story mostly motivating and at its core a turn based combat system with some clever time manipulation. Cris Tales got the whole package and every fan of RPGs should check out this amazing indie game.

8.8 / 10.0 - New Pokémon Snap
May 4, 2021

New Pokémon Snap shows how a good sequel should be made: You don't change the gameplay of the original, but use it as a basis to build on it with optimizations. Self-alternating routes, more boss stages, and four different motifs for each of the over 200 Pokémon show that the principle of the photo safari can still work excellently two decades later and have significantly more replay value. The only downer remains the uninspired plotline in the camp, which tends to bore rather than make the game more interesting.

Despite having a great story, a video game still needs its gameplay and here Lost Words: Beyond the Page falls very short and doesn't offer more than the usual 2D-Platformer action. If you just wanna experience the story, you can still give it a go.

Murder on Eridano improves a lot on Peril on Gorgon, alone through the division in different islands the players get a lot more overview of their surroundings. The mix of thriller and conspiracy gets the story elements to a new high, which makes the around ten hours of playtime a great experience. Only the long loading times on the PS4 and the not expandable combat system disturbs the flow of the game.

8.2 / 10.0 - Bravely Default 2
Feb 25, 2021

Bravely Default II excels in bringing back classic JRPGs with superb turnbased gameplay, unfortunately it also revives a cliched story about crystals and steep difficulty spikes, which make "grinding" an unavoidable feature of the game.

9 / 10.0 - Hitman 3
Jan 21, 2021

Hitman 3 is the great finale to the outstanding stealth-trilogy - Agent 47 traverses some of the most polished and detailed levels to date, leading to the high replayability the series is known for. Only the newly added features like the camera feel redundant to the core gameplay.

Ironically, this straightforward mix of Roleplay and Hack n Slay still holds up strong today. The element that might seem apalling to hardcore RPG-Fans is the same element that saved it from getting irrelevant - easy accessibility! Combined with the motivating story it is still as fun to play in the present as it was back then.

8.8 / 10.0 - Wasteland 3
Aug 26, 2020

On Paper Wasteland 3 sounds like the perfect RPG-Dream but the execution leaves much to be desired. Bugs, Glitches and graphics that doesn't really represent a game that releases and the end of this console generation are a bit of a letdown. Everything else from the great story, entertaining NPCs, solid battle system, clever leveldesign over to the love for details is amazing, besides some flaws that should soon be fixed, as inXile and Brian Fargo promise. Everyone that wasn't happy with the latest Fallout Games will surely love Wasteland 3.

Definitely the most beautiful version of the game with a lot of nice additions like a 10 hour long Epilog and some new modes. Newcomers will probably have some troubles to get into the old core elements of the game and the battle system but hardcore fans will have a lot do and explore in this Definitive Edition.

8.4 / 10.0 - Iron Danger
Mar 23, 2020

The unique selling point for Iron Danger is the time manipulation mechanic, which works admirably in combat situations. Made a mistake? Just rewind time! It is just plain fun to redo your tactical approaches until everything works perfectly. A must play for anybody, who wants to try something new in this kind of genre.

As a remake, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is certainly beefed up in content compared to the original games: better graphics, more dungeons and even more Pokémon will intrigue newcomers and make long standing fans revisit this on par roguelike experience.

Jedi: Fallen Order is guilty of borrowing loads of already established gameplay elements from other titles, but blends them together almost seamlessly. It gets accompanied with an intruiging story and colourful characters, making it the game Star Wars fans were yearning for. If only they left out those pesky sliding passages...

8.7 / 10.0 - Luigi's Mansion 3
Oct 28, 2019

After the first two iterations Luigi's Mansion 3 expands in almost every department. A bigger game world, more gameplay mechanics to play with and puzzles that will take you some time to solve make Luigis new adventure the perfect addition for the Switch's game library. And for the first time in the game series' history Nintendo also put some emphasis on the multiplayer aspect apart from the story mode.

9.1 / 10.0 - The Outer Worlds
Oct 25, 2019

The Outer Worlds marks Obsidians departue from the Fallout franchise, but continues to deliver top Action RPG quality. Even if it's a bit too easygoing on the player, the title pulls all out all the stops: lush scifi settings, tight gameplay and dialouges rich with satire. The guys from Obsidian are masters of their craft and really don't necessarily need a postapocalyptic wasteland to succeed

6.8 / 10.0 - WWE 2K20
Oct 22, 2019

WWE 2K20 doesn't look good, some Wrestlers probably wouldn't even recognize themselves. It doesn't play well despite the old engine, it doesn't run well because of a immense amount of bugs and glitches. There's not much positive to mention about the newest WWE game, so fans should stay away from this one.

Disappointing chamber dungeon building aside, TLOZ Link's Awakening for Switch is the best version you can play right now. The updated animations are somewhat cutesy, but the improved controls, which cut out annoying item switching, should be the biggest selling point for newbies and hardcore fans alike.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered does the job it was set out to do - updating the graphics, adding 'boosting options' and little else. Some additional content would have been nice, but even with that being the case, FF VIII is still the outstanding RPG it was twenty years ago.
