9.3 / 10.0 - Street Fighter 6
May 30, 2023

Street Fighter 6 is Capcom getting back on its feet after the previous chapter's half-slide, taking note of what was wrong and finding the courage to further refine the combat system of its most famous series, imagining convincing mechanics and expressing a desire to open up fighting to the widest possible audience. The result is absolutely recommended.

Tears of the Kingdom manages to surpass the perfection previously achieved by Breath of the Wild, an incredible accomplishment. I'm very happy for the other software houses, who will now be able to have a carefree summer, sparing themselves endless work sessions in an attempt to create a contender for the title of game of the year: right now, the current generation of game designers sadly lacks that spark with which to create a product that can come close to Tears of the Kingdom.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is a very worthwhile expansion that provides a host of tasty endgame content in the company of Aloy. It doesn't revolutionise the base game as intended, but Guerrilla Games' stunning Los Angeles is worth the price of admission alone.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is a content-rich collection, not all of which has aged well. The brilliant combat system enhances the collectible nature of the chips, never-frequent random combat and little more than adequate technical realisation may not make the games suitable for the seasoned audience of 2023.

GrimGrimoire rises from its ashes, picking up and greatly improving a product that initially showed Vanillaware's inexperience in the RTS sector. It's still not perfect, but console-powered real-time strategy fans will hardly find better at the moment.

Immersion, great comfort and atmosphere to spare: The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2 offers very little new compared to the previous chapter, also due to a less interesting adventure, but the survival mechanics still work well and the result is a pleasure to play, especially on PS VR2.

The Light Brigade is undoubtedly one of the best exponents of the roguelite genre on PS5, a challenging game that returns a great deal of satisfaction thanks to a credible and satisfying gunplay. The sense of progression and atmosphere do the rest, packing a must-play title for all SONY headset owners.

The crossover of my dreams is made exactly like Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, an expansion that embellishes the formula of the base game by incorporating a massive dose of references and content taken from one of the most beloved videogame sagas of all time.

If you consider the Final Fantasy soundtrack worthy of being counted among the heritages of humanity, then Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is the music game for you. Rich in tracks and truly suitable for everyone, with a very well-calibrated level of difficulty. Too bad they haven't modernised the aesthetic, distinctive but undeniably little more than functional.

Recovering from the mists of time an old game like a Dragon: Ishin! may be a risky choice, but the restoration operation can be considered perfectly successful. Perhaps the overall variety doesn't quite reach the heights of insanity of the very latest chapters, but the fun offered by the classic arcade combat system is still very much up to date, classifying Ishin! as a successful exponent of the celebrated series.

95% is a bit of a miserly score for a game as outstanding as Metroid Prime Remastered, but those who have already played the original might consider themselves satiated and save money for a work that shows no particular additional content compared to the original. Everyone else should put it at the top of their shopping list, in no uncertain terms.

Between novelties and various refinements, Fire Emblem Engage's combat system is perfectly polished and exciting. Not all of the campaign is full of twists and turns, and the shadow of socializing at all costs might make the more grumpy digital generals nervous, but overall Fire Emblem Engage is a recommended chapter.

Persona 3 Portable is an unconvincing conversion of a game that could have expressed more in 2009, constrained then by limitations that current platforms do not have. It remains an important chapter for the saga with a unique aesthetic that serves as a bridge to its origins, but it is a shame that the adaptation was made without the will to dare.

8.7 / 10.0 - One Piece Odyssey
Jan 11, 2023

One Piece Odyssey is definitely the best game dedicated to Eiichiro Oda's omnibus work, and a perfect JRPG for newcomers. Those who don't like One Piece or are looking for a more challenging and in-depth experience would do well to look elsewhere, knowing however that such successful adaptations are a very rare commodity indeed.

A treasure hunt in the world of Dragon Quest turns out to be a pleasant RPG with simple and affordable mechanics suitable for young and old, especially aimed at those who like to have fun without bothering with overly complex plots. The collecting aspect takes over from a basic combat system, but it remains a very enjoyable game.

Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration offers a lot, but the shadow of a legendary brand like Atari pushes to demand even more. The absence of Atari Games' historic coin-ops along with many of the more distinctive home machine games weighs heavily, but the new games created by Digital Eclipse somehow manage to save the party. As a work of preservation and divulgation, however, it plays in a league of its own that is really hard to approach.

Brutal, deep but above all fun: the combat system of God of War Ragnarök is worthy of the god of war himself! The exploration shows the side to a certain repetitiveness that in the long run tends to tire, but the epic nature of the plot makes the conclusion of Kratos and Atreus' journey a spectacle worth living to the full.

9.3 / 10.0 - Bayonetta 3
Oct 25, 2022

Bayonetta 3 undoubtedly ranks among the best action games around, and is one of the most ambitious projects to emerge from the forges of PlatinumGames. Such weight makes the technical realisation creak, itself constrained by Switch's limitations, yet the end result is a feast for all fans of these games and the charismatic Cereza.

7.2 / 10.0 - Valkyrie Elysium
Oct 3, 2022

Valkyrie Elysium's combat system is sufficiently complex and entertaining, which is good, considering that what remains of the game is quite forgettable. A decent game for fans of the tri-Ace saga, but certainly not essential. Also because, if you're hungry for Norse adventures, there's a certain god of war waiting for you at the end of November...

We would have preferred a proper sequel, but the gigantic roster gives JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R that encyclopedic value that will keep Hiroiko Araki's fans busy for a long time. The partly revamped audio-visual presentation still holds up well against the weight of years, and the variety of characters is put at the service of a sufficiently complex and satisfying combat system. Too bad about the lack of rollback, but never say never.
