Slain was nice, but not mature in my opinion. A graphic display that rode on the retro wave. However, the makers have taken the criticism to heart. The big hit is not VALFARIS. With Axiom Verge, Blazing Chrome, Gunlord & Co. there is also a lot of strong competition. Nevertheless, accompanied by metal rhythms, it is fun to chop up opponents. There is still frustration, but unlike Slain you have the feeling that you have failed yourself. I can recommend the title to fans of the genre. Everyone else prefers to play rehearsal first.

Zombieland Double Tap is not a total failure. However, there are already plenty of Twin Stick Shooters in 2019, which are better in all areas. The level process quickly becomes dull, the joke of the film template is not saved into the new medium due to the weak setting and presentation. Zombieland is doomed, because there is simply no reason not to use one of the competitors.

Riot: Civil Unrest is for me, apart from the idea, an innovative and novel game. Unfortunately it's too chaotic, incomprehensible and playful not rich in content. Maybe this realistic scenario is not meant for a game.

Once you have overcome the first gagging in the face of the new graphics, GODS turns out to be a playable, early castleroid. Yes, the gameplay takes some getting used to and the "riddles" are in truth not puzzles and the 16-bit graphics are also not a real feast for the eyes. But if you let it go, Gods is just as demanding and motivating these days. The biggest letdown is likely to be the current price.

Battle Princess Madelyn is not bad. But it's not good either. Apart from the compelling graphics, it is simply too uninspired, and thus the famous "one among many". In 2018 the competition is just too big. There are too many games that are better in terms of playability and gameplay than you should spend your time with this blender. Although the creators promised a few improvements via patch, at the time of the test, unfortunately nothing was yet to be seen.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is different, but otherwise goes in all respects as a legitimate successor to the last Wonderboy games through. Connoisseurs of the old games, especially of Dragon`s Trap, feel immediately at home and immediately recognize the numerous references. Monsterboy is almost unconditionally recommended. However, those who only grew up with "modern" games should complain here and there about the "old-fashioned" level of difficulty.
