Despite the late game bullet hell elements and frustration of certain levels, Soft Body does succeed at the meditative aspect with its clever combination and stacking of gameplay elements as it progresses and usage of simple shapes, color, and sound to create a very pleasing and enjoyable game.
Like true art, the expression of creative skill and imagination for the appreciation of beauty or emotional power, Soft Body could simply be a piece of art intended to be admired, allowing us to question our very existence. Because of this, maybe, just maybe, Soft Body is the true meaning of games.
Despite how peculiar it all may seem, all of the elements of Soft Body come together and make perfect sense while you are playing it. I would recommend Soft Body to players looking for a light challenge and something to take their mind off of other things; you do not need to look any further than this odd and special game.
Soft Body is a very unusual release whose abstract gameplay starts out addictive and entertaining, but soon becomes fiendishly challenging. Its high level of difficulty means it's not for everyone, but if you have superb reflexes and coordination, and love action-puzzle games, it's worth a look.
Soft Body is a challenging puzzle-action game, with a colourful palette and beautiful soundtrack, but its repetitive nature stops it from being more than a niche curio.
While Soft Body initially strikes a nice balance of difficulty, the later levels become far too complex, which is a serious problem as being able to solve these puzzles comes down to your physical attributes. Without the necessary reflexes or hand-eye co-ordination, there's no possible way for you to progress through these levels, even if you understand what you're doing wrong and what you need to do to solve it. Fortunately, we found the game's first set of levels to be a very enjoyable challenge and a unique spin on the puzzle genre.
