Dead Rising 4 is an amazing game, it does all things right and gives the player a great feel of the original. It's almost an updated version of Dead Rising, and there's even a good amount of references to the first game as well. There is a lot of killing to do and a lot of damage to deal with the exaggerated combo-items. If you're looking for an action-packed, zombie-slaying, destroy-anything-in-your-path game, then this is the one for you. For once, you can like the main character and laugh at his jokes. So go out there, make your own personalized Frank West and kill some zombies with some odd-like combo weapons! And remember to take a lot of selfies! Because you've covered wars, you know.

Dead Rising 4 is able to take the best elements of the older and newer games in the series and mash them into a spectacular open-world zombie-slaying experience. The game’s core gameplay is just so engaging and enjoyable that diving into hordes after hordes of zombies to wreak havoc never gets old, and having Frank West back in the action makes it even better. The series is certainly in a much different spot now than it was 10 years ago, but its future has never looked brighter.

Think Bruce Willis from Die Hard being thrown into The Walking Dead during Christmas time and voila you have Dead Rising 4. The fourth addition of this open-world action packed game is the most zombie filled yet but don’t feel like you need to have played its predecessors to enjoy this one. With optional tutorials getting you through the basics you will quickly find yourself becoming distracted finding new and better ways to kill zombies before you realise that you have forgotten about the main storyline. Dead Rising 4 has the best core gameplay the series has ever seen. Its inventive and humorous ways to put down the dead are something I still haven’t tired of, and its surprisingly interesting plot is more than just a zombie-killing delivery system. Despite the technical blemishes that come with the series, its lack of co-op story mode play, and the fun-yet-unreliable multiplayer, Frank West’s return brings the series some fresh ideas, a ton of bloody mayhem, and a whole lot of cracking wise. Here’s hoping he sticks around for a while.

Dead Rising 4 continues the idea of mainstream accessibility that started in Dead Rising 3. While the first two games were about watching the timer and making efficient choices, Dead Rising 4 is about killing zombies in silly costumes with cool weapons. If that's what you want, Dead Rising 4 delivers good, gory zombie fun in a Christmas-themed wrapper. If you're looking for something more like the first game, I'd pick up that re-release. If you liked Dead Rising 3, you'll get a kick out of this.

I unfortunately haven’t had a chance to give the online co-operative multiplayer a go for this as Dead Rising 4 is currently online available on the Windows Store and, er, it doesn’t look as if anyone’s really playing it. Ultimately, Dead Rising 4 is the epitome of big, dumb fun. It's as wide as ocean yet as deep as a puddle, yet curiously it's self-deprecatory tone and over-the-top violence means it's a game that rarely gets boring. It's less fine wine, more Bacardi Breezer, and you know exactly whether that makes it the game for you this holiday.

In the end, Dead Rising 4 is a solid game that is an enjoyable experience for series fans and newcomers. The "use anything, make anything" mechanics that have made zombie-smashing so fun are still intact, and some changes only amplify the experience when dealing with the expansive world. While the story is good on its own, Frank's presence provides a nice balance between silly and serious, and the multiplayer also finds a sweet spot. The title has some issues, but they aren't enough to dampen the sheer fun this game provides. DR4 is a worthy pick-up this holiday season.

It's fitting, somehow, that a game series so lovingly modeled after a famous B-movie would itself result in a B-tier game. Dead Rising 4 is uneven and less polished than many other games this fall. It's the kind of light, airy game I would have expected earlier in the year, when it wouldn't risk being swallowed up by the holiday season. At its core it's a pulp adventure, with winking witticisms and bloody messes strewn throughout. That makes it, if not entirely memorable, at least a bloody good time that understands the ephemeral nature of camp.

Dead Rising 4 is a good game. It's not great, and it's not bad—it's just good. Killing zombies is fun, the story isn't bad, and Frank is fun to play as with his sense of humor and "smart-ass but slightly aging journalist" schtick. It's just a bit too easy to really suck you into the gameplay, and the multiplayer is forgettable at best. You'll either love it for Frank's character and killing zombies with new toys, or you'll hate it for getting rid of your favorite features. Either way, it's an important entry in the series for Capcom Vancouver to learn what works and what doesn't.

Dead Rising 4 doesn't build much farther than it's predecessors, but it lays down a foundation for more games to come. The setting is great for the genre it's in and it helps build up the world around it. It's very fun by yourself and with friends, doesn't matter if you are trying to rack up the highest score, or if you're running zombies over in a tricycle. You'll enjoy the game both ways. Veterans of the series dislike it, a myriad of technical issues (on PC), and a relatively short and lack luster campaign prevents it from being a great game altogether. Dead Rising 4 takes the series in a different direction that may alienate its loyal fans, and attract those who didn't like previous installments. The game now tries to give you as many weapons and zombies as possible, and reduces the challenge even further by removing story timers the need to save your game. Still a fun experience though, just not as fun as it used to be.2016

Although the weapons and the exo-suit elevate the core action of Dead Rising 4, the lack of timer takes away the challenge and the replayability. The currrent build also has a lot of bugs, unfortunately.

I'm not sure if straight to video, shallow Christmas film was what the Capcom Vancouver were aiming for here, but it's what we've got.

Dead Rising 4 is the best at what it does and what it does is zombie killing. The presentation is strong and there are plenty of ways to kill zombies. Unfortunately, the game as a whole feels as worn-down and routine as West himself, from its side-quests to its way-point hunting and overall combat. Worth a look only if you're not fussy about exploring this mostly typical sandbox.

Fans of Dead Rising will lament everything this latest Christmas-themed sequel has lost, but it's still a pleasant-enough time for those who want a mindless zombie-killing sandbox.

If you have the bandwidth or are able to import Dead Rising 4, it’s well worth the hassle. Otherwise you’re better off waiting until it’s cheaper or available offline.

Despite a few improvements, Dead Rising 4 falls short in too many areas to earn a recommendation. A passable entry in the zombie slaying franchise that wastes the return of its original hero.

Dead Rising 4 takes a few steps forward in terms of the gameplay mechanics, but also takes a giant zombie-infected shamble backwards in regards to the narrative elements. Taking away the ticking clock, making the maniacs nothing more than a mere annoyance instead of the stuff of nightmares, and having civilians easily rescued really pulled away from what I liked in the previous games. Dead Rising 4 is fun, but it’s also a little hollow and it’s lost a significant chunk of the series’ soul.

I persevered through the issues on PC because I genuinely found things to like in Dead Rising 4. The silly, if somewhat hackneyed plot was light-hearted in tone and Frank is just as likeable as ever. Investigations are a nice way to break up the action, which is just as insane as it ever has been. However, it’s a ridiculously easy game thanks to a liberal slathering of healing items, and the diabolically bad PC port is frankly embarrassing to see in 2016. A reasonably solid game that sadly on PC is just out of frame.

Dead Rising 4 is a fun, easy to pick up game which can bring you some Christmas joy and laughs, but stops short of offering anything amazing to the series.

At this point, all that remains of Dead Rising is the name. A once interesting and promising franchise has been neutered, changed for a more palatable creation. Dead Rising 4 could have been something, anything, but instead chooses to be a “cash in” on holiday season and a further diluted formula.

While the return of Frank West and the added exploration potential are good, and will likely keep you interested for the game's full duration, it's not enough to make Dead Rising 4 a satisfying experience. The real issue is that, even if you've never played a Dead Rising game, you've seen this all before.

Capcom's attempt to revitalize the Dead Rising series, by giving it contemporary Western-style controls and gameplay, strips the title of the rough charm that made previous zombie-killing installments joyous experiences.

A lukewarm experience takes creativity out of Dead Rising 4 in favor of streamlined game mechanics and story heavy sequences. Bashing zombies is still fun, but only for a couple of minutes.

Dead Rising 4 lacks both the conviction to truly strike out on its own and the features and mechanics that will please franchise fans. As is, it's a game that is bland at its best and downright contemptuous at its worst.

Your enjoyment of Dead Rising 4 will entirely depend on how long you can tolerate its multiple novelties. The novelty of killing thousands of zombies (again); of screwing around with crafting silly weapons and wearing dumb outfits (again); of returning to Willamette (again), this time with its Christmas theme; and of playing as Frank West (again).
