Gran Turismo Sport is a great driving game when reviewed in isolation. It’s got great racing, amazing visuals and stunning attention to detail which would make most petrol-heads froth. However, it also falls short when compared to its competition who boast more cars, tracks and just more fun. This ultimately makes GT Sport tough to recommend.

Further ReadingLogitech G29 and G920 racing wheels coming to PS4 and Xbox One [Updated]I played the game mostly with a Logitech G29, which might be the optimum way to experience it. Be warned—the game only supports a handful of wheels, although there are a number of adapters you can find online for $50-$60 that should let you use an unapproved one. (We make no promises about the ease of use with any of those, however.) Additionally, you have many fewer settings to tweak compared to Forza or Project CARS, but the flip-side of that is that setting up a wheel is easy, and I had no complaints with feel or force-feedback.

Gran Turismo Sport is a technical masterpiece. It perfectly showcases what the PlayStation 4 is capable of and is one of the most visually stunning racing games I’ve played. As a career racer, sadly it falls short. Although in spite of its online focused design, the game is still full of innovation which makes it all the more sad to see it cut down to such a small roster of tracks and cars.

After a long wait, Gran Turismo Sport is here, and it is racing perfection beyond measure. This is the best racing game that I have ever played, overflowing in beauty, grace, playability, and precision. Driving a go-kart, a fusion-engine concept race car, or a standard Ford Focus all provide a wealth of fun and unique challenges. Gran Turismo Sport is a triumph, and will be played voraciously by racing fans for years and years to come.

In conclusion, Gran Turismo Sport is one of the best GT experiences on any Playstation console, however it does have limited content compared to its competitors such as Project Cars and Forza on the Xbox One. Graphically, it's a thoroughly impressive game, especially with 4K HDR and then you have the option of VR which gives you a very immersive experience but more would have been nice, especially more content for offline. Needless to say, the developers have pushed for online which may  turn some players away but if you're looking for a total online experience, GT Sport definitely delivers on that scale and offers a very simulated racing game from start to finish… just be warned that you need to put in the hours.

Many aspects of this new-generation Gran Turismo are fantastic. It looks absolutely stunning, sounds great, drives superbly, and delivers an excellent online racing experience. However, GT Sport is a little lacking when it comes to its content. Its car roster packs some very desirable motors, but feels somewhat padded out with single-model variants, and the track selection is decent, but not outstanding. Most disappointing, though, is that this game has largely replaced the series' traditionally comprehensive PvE racing campaign with a set of tests and lessons designed to teach you how to race. It certainly does that effectively, but it does mean that those who've always enjoyed Gran Turismo's single-player component are left distinctly wanting. The game's always-online requirement may also be a problem for some. Ultimately, GT Sport is a truly brilliant driving game—it's just that it lacks the scope, scale, and depth of previous iterations of the series.

Gran Turismo Sport is a near essential purchase for PlayStation 4 racing fans. There might be a few disappointments in some of the limitations and regressions, but the brilliance of the game is in the small details that combine to enable willing players to become better drivers and racers and the implementation of multiplayer. Your enjoyment of Gran Turismo Sport depends on what you're looking for in a racing game. If you're looking for a beefy single-player experience, you'll have to look elsewhere. Outside of Arcade mode, you can learn how to drive well and get in a good challenge while doing so, but GTS pales in comparison to the campaigns of versions past with respect to long-term, single-player engagement. If your focus is on multiplayer, then GTS is just right for you. You'll have to learn how to drive like a professional and not hit things, but the game provides you with all the necessary tools to achieve that.

Gran Turismo Sport feels like a game people shouldn't be buying now. Rather, it is something that should be revisited in three or six months. There is too much that needs to be done here. While it handles and looks well, with an Arcade mode and online elements that are rather solid, the Campaign isn't fulfilling and too much gets locked away the second online connectivity has been taken away. There are too few cars and tracks here, something that will hopefully be remedied with both free and paid updates. Gran Turismo Sport debuts on the PS4 without a number in its name, signaling a shift for this long running car racing franchise. While the simulation is still very good, and the presentation is top notch, the lack of content in both single player and online modes will leave most participants unsatisfied. With a full asking price and always-online design, all but the most hardcore fans should approach with caution.

Gran Turismo Sport is lacking in a true racing experience that prior releases in the series were able to deliver.

Gran Turismo Sport is a troubled game compared both to its rivals and even previous installments of the series. Developers have devoted all their focus on the multiplayer section and as the result, single player is undeniably poor in terms of content. Apart from all these, a short selection of cars and tracks, unrealistic physics and an unpleasant stiff gameplay put Gran Turismo Sport in 3rd place in this year's competition.

Gran Turismo Sport is a departure from the usual Polyphony Digital affair and presents a heavy focus on the online, one of the few aspects that is fully realized and delivers so far. The single player is what was damaged the most by the developer’s shift in priority. That is not to say it isn’t a decent game. Online players will enjoy it for months to come, especially if they plan on taking on championships and tournaments. For the rest, the tacked on single player will leave them disappointed, especially since provides a wonderful driving simulation experience. For a full retail priced game, it is hard to justify the purchase unless you know right away that you are going to be dedicated to the online mode. That is the only area wherein you will see the title’s true potential. For now, we are left hoping that a more traditional Gran Turismo installment manages to find its way on to the PlayStation 4 in the near future.

Gran Turismo Sport is the beginning of a new era for the titular PlayStation racing franchise, but some aspects should have been tuned further if they wanted to remain competitive. Unnecessarily convoluted game modes, a pointless photo mode, always-online connectivity, and terrible rosters of tracks and cars bog down an otherwise fun and immersive driving experience. Although this is easily one of the best feeling and best sounding racing games on PlayStation 4, other racing games are just more fun. And as a long-time fan of this series, that is the most heartbreaking of all.

I want to love it, so badly and from a pure gameplay standpoint, this is probably one of my favourite racers in quite some time.

In many ways, Gran Turismo Sport feels like a tech demo. Visually, it pushes the bar, with car models that are as good the real thing and environments better than ever before. And the lighting; holy hell, the lighting. It is glorious. In terms of content though, it's lacking.

Seeing as how even the online modes have weird time limits or aren't fully ready, Gran Turismo Sport is honestly not worth looking into at the moment. Maybe this will mature into a better racing game in the future (much like Driveclub), but you can presently get so much better on PS4 that I'm not sure why GT Sport wasn't delayed to add some more content. The ulta realism isn't enough to justify the cuts done to the core GT gameplay of the past.

Gran Turismo Sport purposely limits itself as it revolves solely around getting players racing online in various competitions. The VR gimmick and customization options are nice, but otherwise there simply is not enough here for anyone but the gamer that wants to turn video game racing into a potential career. GT Sport is a shell of what we expect from this series, and will disappoint anyone looking for any significant content in its offline modes.

Gran Turismo Sport looks great, but a lack of content, some dodgy AI, and an always-online requirement see it limp into the pits. Still, how 'bout them interiors?

A brilliantly done driving simulator, but without any serious single-player campaign to go alongside the online timesink.

If you're a die-hard Gran Turismo fan, or just can't get enough online racing, this would be a good pickup for you. Otherwise, you're better off with either of the other two big racers of the season.
