Sniper Elite 4 continues to hone and refine the series while also offering an experience more welcoming to newcomers. I'm pleasantly surprised by the campaign's ability to offer a strong balance between sneaky stealth and utter chaos, with both playing styles able to be experienced within the same mission.

Overall, and while many will look to Sniper Elite 4 for the solo experience, anyone who has played previous titles will know that the multiplayer offerings are exceptionally enjoyable and Sniper Elite 4 takes this to the next level. Those playing as a team, with communication, will find it truly enjoyable, but that’s not to say those going it alone will be left disappointed. They won’t, for Sniper Elite 4 excels in many ways.

Rebellion is on track to become an essential AAA studio with Sniper Elite 4. The bottom line: If you were a fan of previous Sniper Elite games — you have to buy this game. If you're a fan of stealth games in general — you have to buy this game. If you were holding off due to Sniper Elite's historical lack of AAA polish — you have to buy this game. Sniper Elite's fourth installment propels the series into the big leagues for the first time, and Rebellion deserves every shred of praise.

"Minus some major and minor technical issues, Sniper Elite 4 is the pinnacle of the series. The story is straightforward and enjoyable but the gameplay is where the fun's at. Its diversity and amount of possibilities are good ol' sniping fun. You will spend hours in each map performing objectives and taking names through the X-Ray system. Which are brutally and beautifully on display thanks to the graphics. They also bleed over nicely into the rich environment. Here's hoping some problems are fixed because semi-open world stealth/action games are rarely this consistently entertaining."

So how to conclude? Well, it's another Sniper Elite game. Much like number three, which admittedly took some major steps forward over V2, but the same level of progress is missing. A new climate and a lick of paint have made another game in practically the precise mould of the brilliant Sniper Elite III, so I can't really complain. It's like going back to your favourite restaurant and ordering what you always order. Sure, it's a bloody delight, and there's not much bad to say about it, but perhaps something slightly different (aware as I am that this is vague and ill-defined) might have been nice?

A lot of games tout the ability to “play how you want to play,” but Sniper Elite 4’s missions and mechanics actually are robust enough to back up that claim. Picking apart the Nazi war machine piece by piece, using whatever plan comes to mind, is a blast. Not only am I a pretty big fan of Rebellion, but so is most of the staff here as back in 2014 Chris gave Sniper Elite 3 an excellent 8 out of 10 and a year later nearly every member here at CGR was able to get in on the action of slaying zombie Nazis in the Zombie Army Trilogy. Fun fact, I am so incredibly "zombie'ed out" that I actively avoid anything to do with them … except for Zombie Army Trilogy. When Sniper Elite 4 was first announced I could not wait; not only did I want to get back into the action to revisit World War II from a sniper's perspective, but I was itching for some good old fashioned cooperative play. Few titles in this day and age have engaging cooperative campaigns and much to my excitement, Sniper Elite 4 continues the excellent trend that Rebellion set in years past. Sniper Elite 4 is a fantastic example of how to refresh a franchise while staying true to its roots.

The game succeeds in delivering the feeling of being a sniper undertaking missions through its wide levels, and the well-suited sniping and stealth for the game world. There is a huge variety in where and how to finish each mission, and many options that affect your playstyle. However, the weak story, samey missions - especially the side missions - and some development flaws affect the overall experience. Sniper Elite 4: Italia is the most beautiful and comprehensive game in the series, which offers a well-executed sandbox, modern graphics and really interesting tactical gameplay. The problems with AI and hitboxes can ruin the experience, but there is hope that all issues will be fixed with the patch. If you admire the poetic and colorful Italian setting and want a classic shooter with high freedom of choice and great stealth mechanisms, with a good story mode, enjoyable multiplayer & loveable survivor, Sniper Elite 4 is the defining experience.

In single, isolated moments, Sniper Elite 4 is a great game. However, mediocre AI, a throw away story, and a lack of polish in some key places, prevent it, as an entire package, from being a great game.

It’s such an easy title to just pick up and play. I’d recommend upping the difficulty above where you’d think you’d sit, but beyond that dive-in and blow some Nazi brains out.

With bigger environments and far more details than sniper elite 3, we are witnessing great progress in all aspects in sniper elite 4 but Repetitive levels prevent it from becoming a great game. Sniper elite 4 is a Beautifull game which becomes so boring after a few hours of play.

Sniper Elite 4 may lack the bells and whistles of other World War 2-based shooters, but its top tier shooting mechanics and enticing maps make it a fun experience for the creative sniper.

Enormous, open levels augment Sniper Elite 4 with some of the best long-distance shootouts that the series has seen thus far. The under-the-hood improvements – paired with the idyllic Italian backdrop – do give this entry the edge over its predecessor, but if you've played one of these games before then you'll know more or less what to expect. Nevertheless, as far as ball busters go, it doesn't get much better (or wince-inducing) than this.

It's a really exciting time for the Sniper Elite. After three games of the same, generic third-person cover sniper nonsense, Sniper Elite 4 has put the series in a good position and showed a lot of potential for even more improvement, possibly elevating it to truly elite ranks. It's not quite there, yet, though. With no details you can boil down my review to "You're good. Now get better."

If you hear the premise of Sniper Elite 4 and your first thought is "Wow does that sound awesome," then it's probably a game out of which you'll get some joy. For anyone else, it's a game worth playing but it might be better to wait for a sale.

Latest entry in the series copes with basic task – it's pretty fun and rewarding for a player to kill using a sniper rifle. Shame though that the story is boring, arsenal is pretty limited, and enemies' behavior is primitive. But the core sniping mechanic of Sniper Elite 4 can provide a couple evenings worth of entertainment.

Although the title presents some flaws, especially at the IA level and at the level of graphics, care and movements, it is globally still enjoyable, finding its space within the world of online sniping.

Sniper Elite 4 focuses on a handful of things that it does very well, and the overall experience is one that I enjoyed. This is a more thoughtful, slower burning pace than the typical shooter, though it is punctuated by moments of intense action that stand out more because they are highlights and not a constant drone of gunfire and running. That being said, the series on the whole has room to grow and is probably overdue to put some more effort into its story and perhaps add a few more wrinkles to the overall gameplay as well.

Sniper Elite 4 continues the style that has worked very well for Rebellion Developments on the previous releases of the series, but providing new elements that improve the gameplay. Unfortunately it is not too much innovative and some technical aspects of the game such as physics and the Artificial Intelligence should be more polished.

Sniper Elite 4 is a vast improvement over Sniper Elite 2 and 3 in terms of scenario design and ambition, but there's just something missing. The team at Rebellion have got the combat down. They've got the sniping mechanics down. They've even nailed the traversal mechanics – whether vertical or horizontal. But there's a distinct lack of fantastical set pieces that stunt Sniper Elite 4 from reaching its true potential. Instead, we have some greatly designed, open missions; but ones that grow repetitive by the time the game ends. Issues with pacing and repetition aside, Sniper Elite 4 is still a competent experience, and one of the more authentic and true-to-life sniping simulators.

Sniper Elite 4 is a blast when you're in its sweet spot, tagging enemies and dispatching them from a distance. Unfortunately, it's dragged down by otherwise bad gunplay, a mediocre story, and poor voice acting. If you just want to shoot Nazis from a distance, you'll have a good time though.

With Sniper Elite 4, Rebellion Studio may satisfy some of the fans of the series but compared to Sniper Elite III, This game has so many little improvements. Although the maps are bigger and kill cams are more violent the story, character modelling and music are weak and these issues prevent the game to be a great one. If we put aside the weak points, the way you can finish the levels and great weapons, make the game worth finishing at least once.

With its inconsequential story and addiction to inane splatter kills, Rebellion's Sniper Elite 4 doesn't subvert expectations. It doesn't have to necessarily: The appeal of shooting digital Nazis may never stagnate, and increasing the scale of each stage means more Nazis to kill and an increased potential for strategy. But a bigger scope makes the inherent problems more visible.

With each successive bullet they've released from the chamber, Rebellion continues to get closer and closer to the bullseye, but unfortunately Sniper Elite 4 is still a few inches off the mark. The game's maps set a new standard for the series, and the accuracy of the its Authentic difficulty bring the thrill of sniping to new heights, but the game's lackluster A.I., middling presentation, and poor central gameplay loop all scream "mediocre".

Sniper Elite 4 succeeds in presenting a slow and tense atmosphere the closer to you get to your targets. Sneaking around a level through the darkness and taking out a target from a great distance without getting caught it one of the most satisfying experiences. It's a shame that these moments are few and far in between, and you spend most of your time with highly aggressive enemy AI. This can get really frustrating after a few hours of gameplay and the only thing that keeps you playing is looking forward to the next sniping mission and seeing it through the kill cam.

Paired with some custom difficulty settings, and players can seriously crank up the adrenaline in this title. A lack of depth in character progression and weapon variety, coupled with a stagnant and unimaginative competitive multiplayer element hold the game back, but it’s still one of the best entries in the series so far.
