Another game asks players to re-attach the controllers to the side of the Switch console, remove it from its television dock and cradle it like a crying baby, complete with a crudely animated infant tossing its head back and forth on the console's portable screen. It was perhaps the most uncanny moment of all the experiences in the game — a human child used as a skeuomorphic wrapper for a software simulation.

While 1-2 Switch is overpriced, it is a brilliant party game in a suitable setting. If you have the right social circle to play it with, you should go for it. Consider waiting for it to become cheaper or to be bundled with something else though.

1-2 Switch defied my expectations, providing an entertainment experience above and beyond that of what I thought was its closest counterpart, Wii Sports. It has a huge variety of games, some better than others, which appeal to both gamers and non-gamers alike. Although artificial restrictions placed on some games and game modes keep it from being as much fun as it could be, this is an excellent party game, and it's just as much fun to watch as it is to play.

1-2-Switch is guaranteed to generate more than a few laughs in social situations, even if some of the games will only be played once or twice. It's definitely THE title to show off the Switch's features, if you wanted to show them off. It lacks any real long term sustenance, though, and definitely should have been a pack in.

Yes, this is way too expensive; yes, it's in need of a decent amount of fine-tuning here and there; and yes, after getting a taste of a mini-game you have pretty much experienced everything it has to offer. However, while 1-2 Switch is not as good as it should be for a launch title, and although it gives a bitter tech demo aftertaste, it's hard to deny how fun it can be when gathering a bunch of friends ready to go bat-switch crazy with it.

Whether munching a sandwich or milking a cow, allow yourself to get lost in the silliness and 1-2-Switch soon becomes the perfect party game with friends. There are clear shortcomings, but there is enough to entertain and the game serves its purpose well in opening your eyes to what potential the Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch have in tandem.

As suspected, 1-2 Switch would have been much better served packed in with every Nintendo Switch (and it may yet become that). As a demonstration of the Joy Cons' abilities it's fantastic, as a multiplayer party game it's fun and often hilarious, but it could stand to have just a little more in the way of longevity.

1-2-Switch is the Switch’s version of Wii Sports, in that it acts as an overall mission statement for the console itself. The quirky, bizarre nature of the unique mini-games make it a funny, memorable experience, but some games are hard to play at first due to unclear tutorials and dialogue cues. Despite its oddities and flaws, I have had so, so much fun playing and watching 1-2-Switch with a small group of friends that I can recommend it in that specific situation, but I don’t have much desire to go back.

"Hey let's go play that game where you milk a cow while staring deep into my eyes." seems to be the type of dialogue Nintendo wants to create with their Switch launch game, 1-2-Switch.  It's a quirky, party style game that is clearly meant to draw in a more mainstream audience to Nintendo's new console akin to what Wii Sports once did.  Could this be the next game that will be at every party in 2017 as Guitar Hero did back in the late 2000s? Probably not.

1-2-Switch does a great job of showing off the unique feature set of the Switch and its Joy-Con controllers, but it's seriously lacking in long-term appeal. When played with a group of friends or family members it's a proper hoot, and has the same social gaming appeal that made Wii Sports a living room tradition for so many households all over the world, but there's no escaping the fact that many of these mini-games lack longevity; some are so basic that they fail to maintain your interest past the first go, no matter how inebriated you and your pals happen to be.For a retail game, 1-2-Switch feels a little anemic, and would have been much better suited as a pack-in title. Nintendo has countered this stance by claiming that it couldn't bundle the game due to cost, but including a download code with each Switch sold wouldn't have incurred any real physical expense – beyond lost retail sales, of course - and that would have been a sensible trade-off when you consider how solid an advert this game is for the system. How many people were sold on the Wii's merits simply by witnessing Wii Sports at a friend's house? By refusing to bundle 1-2-Switch with the base system, Nintendo has missed out on the kind of exposure that marketing simply cannot buy you; as a stand-alone release it feels too fleeting and ephemeral, but as a free pack-in it would arguably have been much more appealing.

For all its good ideas, inventive uses of the Joy-Con and potential as a fantastic party game, 1-2-Switch has just as many fumbles that make it far from an essential Switch launch title. It can be a lot of fun, but it fails to keep you in the moment, takes too long to explain and set up each game, and no amount of immature giggling at euphemistic games can manage to rescue it from itself. It might be quick on the draw, but what follows is more of a confused fumble.

1-2-Switch packs in an impressive amount of content, and is legitimately one of the best party games you'll come across. If it'd been included with the console, it would doubtlessly win over a lot of people. I'm just not sure anything here is compelling enough to entice people to pay an extra £40 for it – especially when Zelda is going to be sat right next to it on shelves.

1-2-Switch is a great tech demo that shows what Nintendo Switch is really capable of. The 28 different minigames are easy to use and enjoyable, but only if you can count on a group of friends to play with. The launch price is perhaps too much expensive for a product that should have been included in bundle with the console, an issue that will probably prevent Nintendo from achieving the same success achieved by Wii Sports and Nintendo Land, which were included respectively with Wii and Wii U.

Featuring a number of fun minigames, 1-2-Switch offers some value in terms of quality and future potential of Nintendo's new system. This ends up getting lost amidst the game's high retail price, the lack of interest of several of its minigames and the absence of features for one player, meaning that a lot of the game's ambition remains unfulfilled and only those who can always fully take advantage of the multiplayer features will be able to enjoy (some of) the minigames in 1-2-Switch.

For 50 USD you get 28 mini-games, about 20 of which are actually worth while and none of which will keep your group playing past the first week. For 50 dollars, 10 dollars less than Breath of the Wild, you get a glorified mini-game collection. There would be no justifiable reason to buy this game for 30 dollars, let alone 50.

1-2-Switch serves as a nice tech demo to familiarize yourself with the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con controllers. It's a unique experience, the type only Nintendo can provide. It's hard to recommend 1-2 Switch at $70+. It's a fun collection of mini games that for the most part do a really good job to show off the potential of Nintendo's new Joy-Cons. However, you're only likely to want to play each mini game once and they're that damn cringe-worthy, that you'll only want to pull this game out for a certain bunch of friends or family.

It's as you expect it to be. Don't go coming thinking that this is revolutionary like Wii Sports. While it would be preferable to be bundled with the Switch, it's a game that should be given a chance. Some games like Quick Draw and Table Tennis are some of the reasons to play this. While others like Gorilla maybe a bit on the nose and turn people away at the gate. I don't recommend getting it at $50 as that is a steep price for what is essentially demos and possibilities of what's to come for the Nintendo Switch. However, if you can get pass some personal barriers and enjoy the games, you just may find good times awaiting. Perfect for the family and drinking parties.

Had this game been bundled in with the console, it would have been lauded as a successful way to get friends and family members into playing the Switch, as Wii Sports did for the Wii. Unfortunately, for a $50 game the scrutiny bar is set a lot higher and after a couple of hours the game rapidly turns stale. If you’ve got a house party coming up and you’re able to borrow a copy or pick one up for less than $20, you won’t regret it, but there are only so many times you can strut down a catwalk, rock your Switch to sleep and beat your chest like a gorilla before the alcohol wears off and you realise how much of an idiot you look.

1-2-Switch seems like a missed opportunity. With 28 minigames in total, there are too many of them that are wasted and limited in terms of enjoyment, The couple that seems to be the most enjoyable grow stale over time when played with the same crowd. Sure, forcing eye contact while you are dueling in the wild west or milking cows produces many hilarious moments, but the lack of depth keeps it from being a must-play title. On top of that, the asking price is too high for what the game offers and would have been better suited as a pre-installed game.

The misfortune here for Nintendo EAD is that party games need to be accessible and appealing to a mass audience, but 1-2-Switch settles for a very specific demographic and all but alienates the rest. For that reason, it's not a purchase I would recommend; it would have been better as a "free" pack in so that people would get the chance to try it for themselves before deciding on whether it had any long-term longevity for them.

Between its overacted intro cinematics, its casting of uninteresting games on the long term and it's high retail price, 1-2 Switch has everything to remain in video game history, but not in the way Nintendo might have hoped. If you haven't bought the infamous compilation, we strongly advise you not to.
