Aside from some admittedly minor gripes and the typically icky post-launch content malarkey, Black Ops IIII is an undeniably appealing multiplayer gaming package. Blackout is a faster and more dynamic battle royale mode than the reigning PUBG and Fortnite; the arena mode has changed in ways that encourage team play, and strategy and Zombies is still a joy, just with more customisation. Black Ops IIII is like your dad’s favourite brand of beer that finally brought out a bolder tasting summer brew; familiar, reliable and now interesting enough for you to accept that you will one day die. Or something.

A competent, carefully crafted but ultimately safe iteration in a long, storied franchise that, frankly, has much better entries. Yet it's also one of the most distinct Call of Duty games, an obvious bid at turning the series into a one-stop-shop multiplayer extravaganza—the only game Call of Duty fans will ever need. Until next year, at least.

Call of Duty works best when it throws a diversity of experiences at you. The multiplayer game accomplishes this with the constant duels between the Specialists. The Zombies experience will keep you trying to survive for just one more round. And Blackout could provide an endless set of crazy and fun experiences.

Treyarch new approach to the Black Ops franchise is a hit and miss. Without a doubt is a great FPS and the inclusion of Blackout is a great idea to mix things up, but the lack of campaign definitely affects the whole package since it may have interesting characters, but leaves them no ground to explore or grow.

Treyarch eschewed one of the tent poles of every Call of Duty game since the original, perhaps boldly, with removing the campaign to make the game more omnipresent, accounting for all types of players who enjoy multiplayer gaming. The game now has three powerful modes that offers “something for everybody”. This was previously the case when campaign was a part of it, but there is somewhat of a shift away from single-player experiences, and the direction is shown here. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 almost defiantly makes itself known as the ultimate all-in-one multiplayer experience to play – and does so with incredible confidence and execution.

There will always be those that lament it for the lack of a single player campaign, but what Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 does for its multiplayer experience is nothing less than phenomenal. Traditional multiplayer has never been better thanks to a few tweaks and additions here and there that elevate the action to a whole new level, while the all new Blackout mode does Battle Royale better than anyone else. And on top of that, Zombies continues to impress us with a plethora of mechanics to engage with and scenarios to complete. Black Ops 4 is easily the best Call Of Duty has been in years. The game plays almost flawlessly, and despite it not having a single player campaign still offers lots of content including the new Battle Royale mode Blackout. Treyarch has once again taken the Call of Duty to the next level, by adding something completely different – much like they did with Zombies. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has taken bits from a lot of other popular games. Be it the instant hit Blackout, from the rise in popularity of battle royal, or Heist mode where you gain income each round but must purchase weaponry, akin to Counter Strike Global Offensive. Treyarch seems to have been happy to do this and experiment with features like a tweaked health system. It has paid off, despite there not being the storyline to play, there is more than ever to keep gamers hooked and playing Call of Duty for the next year!

Black Ops 4 is the best entry to the series from a long time. So many changes in multiplayer mode that added new perspective to the game, and still maintains COD identity. Zombie mode and its new story and content that gives zombie mode fans so much content, entertaining Blackout mode that takes advantage of the series strengths to make a unique experience, all of that make Black Ops 4 the best COD lately. For now the main two issues are removing the traditional story mode and DLC system.

Despite its lack of a traditional campaign, the game impresses in plenty of other aspects. The newcomer mode, Blackout, puts a fun and compelling Call of Duty spin on the battle royale genre. Multiplayer's boots find the ground again and take me all the way back to my fondest memories of the original Black Ops.

Black Ops 4 feels like one of the strongest Call of Duty entries to come along in years. Despite not having a solo campaign or some of the past games' more bombastic mechanics, Treyarch has proved the adage that "less is more." And this game's "less" is good enough to keep me waiting around for "more."

Multiplayer feels great for veteran players. Zombies is neat if not a bit mundane before it ends. Still, there is a lot here, and for those wanting that online CoD experience will find plenty bang for their buck. I miss the campaign, but they have definitely made up for it for those interested in killing other players online.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 features arguably the best multiplayer and co-op experience in the series thanks to the addition of Blackout to its highly polished staple of Zombies and regular multiplayer modes. It even adds split-screen play at a time when such a feature has become rare. At the same time, the excellent online modes make the lack of a campaign mode even more regrettable. The addition of a solid campaign mode could have made this the best COD game to date. As it is now, this one’s for multiplayer lovers only.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 isn't the best in the series, but it's solid enough to justify it's sequel monicker. Blackout is such an exhilarating take on the Battle Royale genre that it's hard to not recommend it to even casual fans. Zombies is engaging and fun, especially with its story, but I wish it took more liberties with its maps. Multiplayer is great for veteran Call of Duty players, but offers little to no innovation over previous entries in the series.

Black Ops 4 is a complete and polished package with Treyarch's deft touch of quality.

It's hard to pinpoint precisely why Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is a far more enjoyable proposition than its immediate predecessors but Treyarch has somehow managed to crank up the fun factor to the point where even repeatedly dying to far superior players has ceased to be irritating. While it isn't going to make longstanding haters of the series rush out to pick up a copy, the consistently satisfying gunplay, revamped health system, renewed tactical focus, and well thought-out specialist skill-sets all contribute to rejuvenating a series that was, truthfully, starting to feel a bit stale. Sure, the lack of a campaign is a minor disappointment that will dissuade some from making that purchase but the addition of the addictive Blackout mode more than makes up for it in many ways and anybody with more than a passing interest in the Battle Royale genre would be foolish to pass up on the best 'last man standing' experience the current generation has to offer. Get to it, specialist!

Black Ops 4 brings a lot of changes to the series. Whether or not they're good changes is a personal choice. I found them mostly great changes. I like the promotion of teamwork. Making specialists that synergize with each other to get you to work as a team takes the game to another level altogether. While its not all praise, the game does have some downfalls. The maps and servers need some work, but overall the game plays amazingly well. The game is highly optimized for performance, with the exception of the low 20Hz tick rate. I expect great things to come for Black Ops 4!

So we can say that we have a Call of Duty in front of us, trying to take a step forward and we can only get half done. The well-structured multiplayer, rich in modes, optimization and zombie mode are certainly points in favor that make the title enjoyable and entertaining. The introduction of the Battle Royale, which may not appeal to everyone, is actually a good feature if you think about its realization; on the other hand, those who are not interested can not always play with it. Too bad for the absence of the singleplayer that has always characterized the title, but that perhaps was now a part reached the end. Too bad, however, for the graphics that is certainly the least cured part of the entire production. Overall, however, despite some flaws, the game lets you play with pleasure, satisfying a bit 'the tastes of all users!

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was announced many were annoyed that the sub-series within the franchise known for telling great stories would be abandoning single-player for a multiplayer-only experience. In the end, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is a rock-solid title, but it could have been so much more. Forcing it to fit under the Black Ops moniker was a mistake, and comes across as forced, given its very light relation to the previous three titles. The whole thing smacks of Treyarch wanting to take risks and go in new directions, but stopping just shy and instead tacking older characters or ideas. Longtime fans of the franchise won't want to miss out on this - especially those who love the Zombies experience - but those who checked out of Call of Duty before likely won't find enough here to bring them back.
