As someone who loves basketball and NBA 2K, it hurts me to have such a negative opinion on the current state of the game. I want to be able to recommend this game to everyone and I hope the devs fix everything soon. When it works, NBA 2K20 is one of the best in the entire series, but those moments are too few and far between.

NBA 2K20 is pure magic on the playground. The new physical model, the impact of the new defensive system and the fine tuning of the gameplay is something valuable which give to basketball lovers endless possibilities. On the other side, the new GM mode is very disappointing and 2K business model for MyTeam is still questionable. The good news is that microtransations are quite useless in MyCareer mode, which thanks to King James work shines again to its original beauty.

NBA 2K20 is the series' best showing in several seasons. The action is more refined than ever, MyCareer serves up a fun story with less grind, and MyGM mode is back on track. Microtransactions continue to be a concern, but the most egregious stuff is restricted to MyTeam mode, with MyCareer actually feeling less exploitative this year. Hopefully we'll see a more substantial refresh in the next year or two, but, for now, the NBA 2K dynasty remains strong.

That makes it such a shame that microtransactions infect the story-driven MyCareer, dragging that down to mediocrity or worse. Fortunately, the intriguing though repetitive MyGM mode and the flexible and engrossing MyLeague mode make up for the online-only options. Throw in the WNBA teams and NBA 2K20 is likely the best iteration of the series on Switch even with its caveats.

NBA2K20 is an incredible addition to the series. The depth and attention to detail make it a masterclass in replicating the beauty of the game. NBA 2K20 is the best basketball game around. Granted, thus far, the competition hasn't shown up. But if and when it does, the bar has been set very high for the basketball sim genre. NBA 2K20 is the best Basketball simulator that has ever created and one of the best sport games of this generation, but as like as recent years, amount of in-game buyings (in a 60 $ game) thtat directly affects gameplay and your experience, has done great damage to the game. I really must say that if it wasn't for huge amount of in-game purchasings, NBA 2K20 would be an "almost perfect sport game" in every aspects, but now we can't ignore the damage that it has done to the game. In the end and with all of these aspects in mind, i must say that NBA 2K20 has seen many improvements and it is an absolutely worthy game to play, but it could be so much better if it wasn't for "gameplay affecting in-game buyings".

The experience of NBA 2K on the Nintendo Switch is nothing short of satisfying for fans of basketball games, thanks to its variety of game modes, fluid gameplay and the inclusion of the WNBA. While the experience is mostly top notch, the game's model of microtransactions makes it feel more like a blind gamble and can end up harming the game's standing. NBA 2K20 is a fun game that has tweaked a handful of different modes, provided a better story than usual and modified the gameplay in a challenging new way that takes some getting used to. Gameplay has never been better, but mictrotransactions, minor technical problems, and especially the deplorable MyCareer pull the game down. Obviously, it’s going to be a ridiculously long grind, but that’s sort of the idea, right? Give us players this long journey, but if you inject some more money into it, the game’s going to be much more fun and rewarding. The developers clearly went too far with microtransactions - without them playing is very uncomfortable. NBA 2K20 gives the impression of a free-to-play game with different currencies and requiring a constant infusion of real cash. The final nail in the coffin hammered the constant problems caused by the connection to the server, which you can't play the game or losing the progress. It's just trash.
