If you plan on creating, then you will want to buy the Starter Pack to give yourself a headstart but the basic game is free and will give you access to the entire library of community created games, that alone makes Project Spark a title that should be on everyone's Xbox One.

Project Spark is the XBox One's answer to Sony's Little Big Planet that both have their pros and cons. Little Big Planet is a little more refined and fine-tuned but Project Spark is far superior in terms of how easy it is to build various games and worlds. However where Project Spark really shines is through its replay value, especially with the ability to share and download games from across the globe which will definitely make this one very popular game.

Project Spark is an inspiration. A wide open toolbox that quite honestly isn't getting the marketing it deserves. A brilliant execution of a tough to perform idea, Team Dakota deserves to be proud of what they've done. While creation isn't everyone's thing, the ability to pick up and play other players creations or the premade campaigns while progressing characters is fantastic.

While the many tools provided in Project Spark may not appeal to everyone, their combined potential makes the game worth looking into.

After enough time with the game, it became clear that Project Spark is not so much a game as it is a game design/content-creation tool for Microsoft's Xbox One community, one for those patient enough to reap the rewards of approval and praise from the community. As such, it is definitely an acquired taste, but those who enjoy it will find a truly rewarding experience.

Project Spark is the most user-friendly game creation suite to date, enabling one to be crafted with less work than anything else like it on the market. There's an impressive array of games to play thanks to the user-creation tools, and there's something for everyone to enjoy as a result.

Project Spark is a product, or experience, or whatever you want to call it that I am not really comfortable giving a numerical score to. It’s a tool that lets you make any kind of game experience whether it be something as simple as a piano keyboard or minesweeper to something more intricately built like a Zelda clone or a stealth action adventure game.

I think that Project Spark takes what other games with creation suites such as LittleBigPlanet and Minecraft started and amplifies it to a much higher level.

Project Spark won't have you churning out incredible games like a development powerhouse. It will, however, provide you an accessible set of tools and assets to begin the process of bringing your dream games to life. This won't happen overnight, so plan on spending a lot of time here if you are ever going to make something memorable.

Project Spark is a very good game, certainly worth your time, and since it's free-to-play it's also worth your money. However, it's also a frustrating game, requiring hours of devotion in order to make something worthwhile, and even MORE hours of devotion to grind out the items you need for your Magnum Opus. Still, it's a game everyone should check out. Who knows, maybe you will get bit by the game design bug and become the next Notch… or at the very least Peter Molyneux.

In the end, Project Spark can be a rewarding title, especially if you plan on putting in some time to learn how the creation system works. There's a level of depth not seen in a console creation title since the PSone era, and while there are plenty of simple games out there from creators, there are also a number of interesting games that speak to the title's long-term potential. Those who just want to play with these creations will be fine with the free version, as it's the best bargain for those who want quick but varied experiences without a high level of polish. For the creators out there, check out the free version to see if you can come to grips with the system, but dive in to the Starter pack if you want a wider range of elements to jumpstart your creative endeavors.

Project Spark is a fantastic creation tool with some severe growing pains. The complexity will scare off lots of creators, and the customization items locked behind a pay-wall will deter even more. I worry that no one will be creating gems on the system outside of a few dedicated creators. A game like this lives and dies on its community, and I am not sure Project Spark has the legs to keep things interesting for years to come.

The most powerful game creation tool ever released for a console, but it's less accessible than it could be and the endless microtransactions leave a predictably sour taste.

So Project Spark then, isn't exactly a fun game. The fun here can only be found in creating and sharing games with the community online – and playing some of their best creations. Right now, it's early days, so the amount of decent games in Project Spark's community isn't exactly big. But potentially, Project Spark could see a wonderful library of creator-based content on offer for players… provided a lot of them put the time in.

Project Spark is appreciated for its ambition, and even more appreciated for its price, but there are better tools out there for aspiring game makers and far better playing games that this one claims to replicate.
