Really though, when you love something this much, you just don’t ever want it to end. That is how I feel about New Super Lucky’s Tale. It is a PERFECT platformer game in a world already filled with Mario titles.
New Super Lucky’s Tale takes what was originally a great platforming game and improves it exponentially to make it one of the most enthralling games currently available for the Switch.
This has been one of the most refreshing and genuinely enjoyable gaming experiences of my year and a massive highlight. My hope for the future is we a get a sequel to this glorious gem, and that it will be twice as long, that was the only downside for me. It was over too soon! If you’re looking for a platformer to keep you entertained for 6-7 hours, then you really can’t go wrong with New Super Lucky’s Tale. A must-have for your Switch library!
New Super Lucky’s Tale is one of the best 3D platforming games on the Switch today – the quality and presentation is Nintendo first-party level. If you’ve played the game previously on PC and/or the Xbox One, there’s so much more than simply ‘New’ added to the title as there are adjusted visuals, new skills, re-designed levels and hub areas, new cinematics, a rotatable camera, and even more precise controls. As a Switch owner, I’m glad this game was able to branch outside of the Xbox console exclusivity and I’m hoping, considering the game is so different to its initial release, that we’ll also get it on other platforms too. It may be quite easy for seasoned gamers but it’s just so much fun to play, everyone should buy it.
New Super Lucky's Tale is a game right at home on a Nintendo console. Featuring bright and colourful environments in a charming world full of life, it draws you in from the offset for an adventure I enjoyed more than some of Mario's. Though slightly frustrating for its loading times, it puts forward a great debut for the adventurous fox on the Switch, and I can only hope to see more down the line.
From beginning to end, New Super Lucky’s Tale is a much more streamlined experience than the original. Any qualms I had with the original game have been rectified in this reimagined edition for Nintendo Switch. The game is oozing with charm and keeps you coming back. It’s a fun-filled experience that shouldn’t go unplayed by 3D platformer fans.
New Super Lucky's Tale is the most refined version of the game to date. There's so many tweaks, additions and improvements to the game that it's perfect that it got the treatment it deserves when hopefully more people get their hands-on time with it. It's Conker's Good Fur Day. Any one who enjoys 3D platformers such as the typical Super Mario or Banjo-Kazooie should give this a look. The only downside is that it's easier, but that still doesn't mean it can't be fun with the tight controls and gameplay variety it has to back that up. New Super Lucky's Tale has been part of the resurgence of 3D platformers and I just hope it's enough to get a true sequel.
New Super Lucky’s Tale delivers a platformer for the whole family to enjoy by being easy to play, visually appealing and introducing a new and clever mascot to the Nintendo faithful. I sure hope we get to see more of Lucky in the future.
New Super Lucky's Tale isn't so much a port as the true definitive edition of the game. A number of improvements to the controls, frame rate, level design, and overall structure of the game has resulted in a title that completely surpasses its origins. It isn't challenging, or very long; but what is there is joyous, frivolous fun until the credits roll.
New Super Lucky's Tale is a solid port of an underrated platformer with a greatly improved camera. It's a little on the short side and may not provide much of a challenge to more hardened gamers – and if you already own it on Xbox One there really isn't enough new here to warrant a second purchase – but what makes it worth a look is its uncanny ability to make you smile, and this is something that can't be overlooked, especially in modern times.
New Super Lucky's Tale is a massive improvement over the original and it shows. Between accessible levels and colorful designs, it's a game that is easy to enjoy. Sure, there are times when it feels too easy or the performance starts to dip but that doesn't take away from the rest. So if you're looking for a classic 3D platformer that is just fun or something like this for your young one, it's hard to say no to New Super Lucky's Tale.
New Super Lucky's Tale is bursting with charm and character, not to mention numerous improvements, and redesigned mechanics that enhance the experience. While not overly lengthy (roughly took me 12 hours), and relatively easy (except for Foxington), there are all-new levels, all of the previous DLC, and dozens of pages to collect, and outfits to purchase with your coins. Load times are a bit on the long side, especially when needing to restart a puzzle. It would also be helpful for the level to be listed when you pause the game and not just the hub world.
It takes the fun original release and turns it into something pretty special. The Switch could be a fantastic new start for Lucky. Who knows, maybe he could have a crossover with another Nintendo fox someday. While the Switch has no shortage of great 3D platformers, New Super Lucky's Tale shouldn't be too far from the top of your list.
GREAT - While it’s definitely suited for a more casual audience, once you pick up New Super Lucky’s Tale it’ll be a hard game to put down. It may not be Conker, but this is an IP bursting at the seams with potential. The addictive gameplay and charming characters really bring it home. If you were curious about this once Xbox One exclusive, it’s definitely worth checking out.
New Super Lucky’s Tale is a potpourri of platforming bliss. It borrows from several related genres, including 3D collectathon and 2D sidescroller, but it never betrays its theme of a cute fox running around colorful worlds.
New Super Lucky’s Tale is a fantastic 3D platformer, polishing up a game in such a fashion that it becomes nearly unrecognizable from the original, despite not being a sequel or really doing much else. In a way, New Super Lucky’s Tale could be compared to the jump between Street Fighter II and Super Street Fighter II, in that the game still feels similar to control with the same outline, but nearly everything else about it is polished and tweaked for the better, leading to a far more engaging platformer that’s perfect for anyone to get into, yet has enough to do in order to satisfy the completionists or older players.
New Super Lucky's Tale is the definitive version of the game. It's still a stripped back platformer, but new content and a revamped camera make it well worth a look.
New Super Lucky’s Tale definitely improves upon what I found to be a generally solid game, the extra content is appreciated the polish is great on Nintendo Switch.
With tight controls and a good amount of entertaining content for completionists, New Super Lucky's Tale justifies its $39.99 launch price for genre enthusiasts. But uneven level design holds this adventure back from true greatness. Check out the demo to get a feel for it.
New Super Lucky's Tale is the third installment of the Lucky's Tale series, with redesigned levels, creatures, and puzzles. This action-packed adventure is well suited to a younger audience and promises a 3D platforming adventure. Check out our review of this Playful Studios' newest game!
It’s not the deepest or most robust collect-a-thon platformer, but New Super Lucky’s Tale serves as a completely decent 3D platformer that serves up some simple fun for anyone with fond memories of the collect-a-thon craze.
