There's a lot of room for Granblue Fantasy: Versus to grow from here. There are a lot more characters that can be brought into the game, and many more stories that can be told through that RPG mode. As it is, however, this is a remarkably beautiful and intelligently-structured fighting game, which does justice to the source material and offers a stunning foundation for what might come into the future.

Granblue Fantasy Versus, is another essential game for digital fighting enthusiasts. Although it is a franchise little recognized in the West, its history, characters and above all gameplay will certainly bring this title to the fore and to competitive stages. This is a high quality product, the same one that arc system works has already accustomed us to.

Arc System Works have only continued to hone their craft and have offered this stunning, smooth and fast-paced fighter as a testament to that. I don’t think it’ll have as big an audience as other genre mainstays, but if you’re a fan of Guilty Gear or Dragonball FighterZ, this is well worth checking out.

As the west's first peek into the Granblue universe's gaming side, Granblue Fantasy Versus is a fighter that can stand alongside its peers in terms of depth, but in addition offers a simplistic control scheme that even those less familiar to the genre can get to grips with quickly and easily. RPG mode is a unique way to to learn the basics of fighting, even if this and other modes could have been a bit more fleshed out.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a top-quality fighting game. It looks great and has carved out its own niche, introducing a style of gameplay that is both familiar and very new. Granblue Fantasy Versus is a fighting game with simple and pleasant mechanics. The graphics are great and the soundtrack as well. Its RPG mode is a little bland, with a weak story, but with good boss battles. The rest of the game is what you would expect from a fighting title: Arcade Mode, ways to learn the basics, Gallery, etc. Online mode, like most Japanese games, is a delay-based netcode, something developers need to rethink about not using anymore.

This might be the first time in which a fighting game with such a horrendously small roster size hasn’t infuriated me to death. Granblue Fantasy: Versus‘ single player campaign is so lengthy and enjoyable that it made me almost forget that there’s also an arcade mode in it. It felt more like a side-scrolling action RPG first with an arcade fighting mode added as a bonus, and I’m fine with that.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is an incredibly beautiful fighting game with nice characters, atmospheric arenas and bright effects, which is great for the beginners, but does not forget about the depth of the combat system. The number of characters at the moment is quite poor, but they are well-developed and differ from each other in terms of gameplay. Given the long life of the progenitor and the already announced DLC, you can expect good support and a lot of content in future.

Arc System Works has stayed true to its creative identity bringing an action packed fighter with stunning graphics, hopefully we see them bring more franchises to the genre. And while the game does suffer from a dull RPG mode, which does well to introduce newcomers to the series but lacks depth, difficulty and becomes repetitive way too quickly. The gaming system may be different from the norm, not what fighting may gamers may have been expecting, but they will definitely want to master this system as with the DLC and exposure it's getting, Granblue Fantasy Versus is set to become a household name very soon.

A lengthy story mode, a host of characters to play as, and numerous online modes to fight your way through ensure Granblue Fantasy Versus definitely won't leave you wanting in terms of content. Learning through playing locally and online is distinctly better than relying on the game’s own resources. Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a good fighting game that manages to add its great visual aspect to some very satisfying playable mechanics, which are developed in a very organic way to introduce its new players to the genre. However, its character roster is too short despite the quality it treasures and its story mode is little more than an excuse to introduce each of these protagonists. With all this, this video game can be a very valid gateway for those who want to get into fighting games or the Granblue Fantasy saga.

As the first game in the Granblue Fantasy series released in the west, Versus doesn’t make much of a case for the series. What it is though is a great anime fighter that fans of the genre will enjoy. Versus doesn’t dumb down its mechanics to make it more accessible and the art style is consistently stunning. It’s a shame the games story mode feels so forgettable and has little gameplay variety over its short length. The game feels like more of a love letter to the fighting game genre than the game/anime series it’s drawn from. Once taken on those merits, Versus offers a lot for fans of the fighting game genre. It offers a fun and dense combat system, a beautiful art style and a lot of options for players who enjoy it. Though it doesn’t have the variety in fighters that other fighters in the genre do. There’s a decent amount of variety between them. It might not do enough to sway hardcore fans of the genre from their fighter of choice. But it offers a decent starting point for newcomers and continues to show Arc System Works grip on the fighting game formula.

All in all, Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a decent fighter whether you play solo or not. My biggest drawbacks are the "story" and the game's eleven-character starting roster. I suppose the plus side of having so few characters means that you'll pick a favorite pretty quick and have time to master their command list. Some of the series' more popular fighters are coming out as DLC relatively soon. Not a great selling point, if you ask me. But with roots in the gacha-game genre, I shouldn't have expected any less.
