JagzKooner Mafia: Definitive Edition Review

Feb 4, 2025
An awful remake, abnormally bad game. It is so inferior to both Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven and Mafia II: Driving physics are similar to Hot Pursuit 2010. When car turns sharply, the wheel automatically roll to the opposite side to prevent spin out, it feels nothing like driving 1930s car with bad suspension and low body rigidity, but at least devs had dignity to improve RWD oversteer compared to the original game. Physics are horrible too, when in the air, car barely rolls around its axises. When you jump out of the car even 300km/h, protagonist loses all its kinetical energy and takes zero damage. It has totally ditched split car/protagonist wanted system from Mafia and Mafia II. In this game, police officers recognize your face even if you passed them 200 km/h. Officers don't need telephone or radio to put you on a hot sheet. Instead, your crimes are being reported even out in the countryside by invisible witnesses. Melee and firefights are counterintuitive. When enemy is about to punch you, protagonist suddenly loses his ability to hit an enemy and hits thin air instead. Shooting your adversaries do not help either - enemy do not stun when it takes damage and manages to punch your face even with two additional 45 cal holes in its chest, enemies keep running to cover when shot in leg unlike Mafia and Mafia II too. Gunplay is a joke. Bullets fly angled to the gun barrel like in CS:GO. Unlike the original game, bullet holes disappear almost instantly to prevent your examination of bullet distortion. Sometimes even a single semi-automatic gun shot do not hit within circle. On classic difficulty, hitting hostile head with a bullet not always put an enemy out of a fight. Devs-liars claimed this game will feature an expanded story, but this game is shorter than Mafia II let alone the original game. On classic difficulty, unused ammunition disappear when you reload, while all guns you pick up from your enemies has unrealistic ammo distribution like 4/3 or 34/33 to prevent effective usage of these guns on maximum difficulty. You cannot manually add bullets to clips by holding reload button like in Daymare 1998 too. Animations are ridiculously fast. Protagonist enters car in less than a second, pressing RMB magically teleports firearm in protagonist's hand, pressing Q magically teleports protagonist behind enemy's back, pressing spacebar magically teleport protagonist's body on an obstacle.
