LethalBrizzleGaming The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Review

Aug 19, 2026
An incredible soundtrack, beautiful art style, and relatively fun gameplay (for a while) unfortunately aren't enough to carry Square Enix's latest HD-2D foray, which ultimately lands pretty flat. Narratively, Elliott's adventure fails to grip me at any point; it's decidedly average even through two of the three available endings. The "True" ending was the first and only time I was remotely engaged emotionally - and even then - it overstays its welcome by continuing beyond what already felt like a great place to conclude. Upon the introduction of four time periods that you can travel freely between, I was hopeful for something akin to Chrono Trigger and how that masterpiece plays with time travel, but it ends up being an empty way to expand and remix the world map. Not only is the writing pretty mediocre, it's also hugely oversaturated and often unnecessary. Dialogue is jarring too - especially your companion - who NEVER shuts up, often over-explaining puzzles for you. I once put my controller down for literally 10 seconds, and that was enough idle time for her to berate me for attention, calling my name and asking if I'm still there. A real shame. I was looking forward to this so much. I think there's something there for someone - and it's far from bad - but it just isn't good either.
