mightyfrog Citizen Sleeper Review
Jun 10, 2025
Citizen Sleeper is dealing with the themes of precarity, vulnerability and of being different (the character you play is not exactly human and NPCs will react to this).
The game does a good job in making you feel all this in the first hour or so. The problem is that it stops very quickly after a couple of hours when you end up with more resources than you need and you understand that nothing bad can happen to you. And this is the issue I have with this game: The writing, which is excellent, is not supported enough by the systems.
The main gameplay loop revolves around a system of dice that are rolled every morning and assigned to different action during the day. Even though the system is smart, I think it is snot deep enough to make the choices that impactful.
That said, a lot of the characters and side stories are very interesting and are worth being interested in and despite what I wrote before, I still recommend this game.
Also, the OST is excellent and really fits the mood of the game.
