Indie hit Untitled Goose Game reached a major milestone in a little over three months after release.
It has been announced that Untitled Goose Game has sold over three million copies. The announcement comes from publisher Panic just a few weeks after the game launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
"It seems impossible, but last week, three months after launch, Untitled Goose Game passed one million copies sold," stated Panic co-founder Cabel Sasser on Twitter. "From the bottom of our hearts: thank you for playing our videogame. The reaction was beyond anything we could have imagined. The fan art, the writing, yes the memes, protest signs, Chrissy Teigen, Muppets?! It feels once-in-a-lifetime. We hope we brought some joy into your life, because you brought so much into ours. And we'll never forget it."
Since Untitled Goose Game launched in September, the game has seen a boom in popularity. A massive amount of memes centering around the title have been released, and the game's titular yet annoying hero even showed up in Resident Evil 2 as a modded skin for Mr. X. The idea for the game came from a joke on developer House House's Slack channel. An employee posted a stock photo of a goose, and after many jokes, the team decided to make a game around it.
Untitled Goose Game puts players in the role of a neighborhood goose, who wrecks havoc upon the people around him. The game tasks players with objectives such as throwing a rake into a lake and breaking an old lady's broom. Players have to complete these tasks by using stealth and distractions, giving them the opportunity to be a pain in the neck for those around them.
Untitled Goose Game first released for PC and Nintendo Switch this past September. The game made its way over to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 17th. The game is a part of Xbox Game Pass.
