Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito has teased that more information about a new title will be revealed as part of the Nier series' 15th anniversary. The Nier series has become a bit of a breakout hit in recent years, thanks to the success of Nier: Automata in 2017. Square Enix also revisited the first game in the franchise with the 2021 Nier Replicant remake. While Nier has gone on to see success in other media, like an Automata anime adaptation, novels, and concerts, some fans are wondering when the series will have another mainline entry.
Post-Replicant's release, Nier series creator Yoko Taro has been working on a number of smaller projects, such as the Voice of Cards series. However, there have been various hints dropped by both Taro and series producer Yosuke Saito about a potential new entry in the Nier franchise. Earlier in 2024, Saito hinted at a collaboration between Yoko Taro and series composer Keiichi Okabe, though played coy about what they were working on. A new hint has been dropped by Saito in a message to ring in the new year.
