Pokemon GO's first Community Day of 2020 has been announced, and it will center on the cute penguin Pokemon from Diamond and Pearl, Piplup.
According to the official Pokemon website, Pokemon GO's latest Community Day will take place on January 19th. The hours that the event will take place depends on which hemisphere you live. The northern hemisphere will have the event run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time, while the southern hemisphere will have the event go from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time.
During Community Day, Piplup will appear much more frequently in the wild and during raids, making it easier to gather Piplup Candy. Players will also have the chance to run into shiny Piplups. If players evolve Prinplup (Piplup's evolution) into Empoleon during the event or up to two hours after, the Empoleon will learn a move that it normally does not know. Nintendo did not announce what the move will be. It is likely that the move will be Hydro Cannon, as previous Water-Type starter Pokemon learned the move on their Community Days.
During the Community Day event, any PokeStops spun may give players Eggs that will hatch into Piplup. Lure Modules will last up to three hours when placed at PokeStops, and Eggs will require one-quarter the usual Hatch Distance when placed in Incubators during the event.
Pokemon GO is in the middle of its Hatchathon event. During the event, which will last until 1:00 p.m. PST / 4 p.m. EST on January 16th, players will receive twice the usual amount of Candy and Stardust every time they hatch an Egg. Gamers will have the chance to hatch party hat-wearing Pichus and Wurmples from 2 KM Eggs. Party Hat Pikachus will appear in the wild while party hat Raticates and Wobbuffets will appear in two-star Raids. The legendary Pokemon Heatran has returned to Raids, and will stay until February 4th. There is a chance that the shiny form of the legendary will appear.
