Balatro Dev Urges People To Buy More Indies After Hitting 5 Million Sales

Balatro was by far the runaway indie hit of 2024, which is something to brag about when we also had little gems such as Animal Well and Lorelai and the Laser Eyes. Not many people could resist Balatro's addictive qualities though, and it became popular enough to sweep the indie section at The Game Awards, as well as earn a nomination for the grand prize.

All that hype and publicity, along with word of mouth, has unsurprisingly done wonders for the game's sales. On Twitter earlier today, the official Balatro account announced that the game had reached 5 million sales, an absolutely monumental milestone that not even most triple-A publishers can brag about. Over five million sales in less than a year is nothing to sniff at.

However, in true Balatro style, the developer behind the title wasn't too keen on just sitting back on soaking in the praise. Shortly after wishing everyone an "amazing time" with Balatro, they quickly turned their attention towards the industry itself and started urging more people to check out indie games.
