One fish biologist has made it their mission for 2025 to catalog the fish from the Animal Crossing franchise alongside their real-world counterparts. The Animal Crossing games focus on the anthropomorphic villagers that players share their islands with, but the series also has its share of land and sea critters. Throughout the different games, players have been able to capture and catalog these animals in the in-game museum.
One real-world fish biologist, who goes by looloogranite on Reddit, has decided to chronicle all the freshwater fish featured in the series, all the way back to the first game. The biologist started with the small but mighty bitterling, a tiny winter fish that can be caught in the Animal Crossing rivers. The Redditor says they've been playing the series since Animal Crossing: Wild World, but their "interest in fish has been life long." Over the course of 2025, they'll be combining their two loves by painting every freshwater fish in the franchise.
